had a strange experience today. was kiting along going pretty fast then all of the sudden a peterlynn crashes about 2m in front of me, the kiter was behind me. going at the speed i was there was no way of stopping in time. before i know it i was surrounded in this soft sleeping bag like cocoon not knowing in hell wat was going on. luckily my kite was high enough above me to not get tangled in this mess. anyway i climed out of the kite but because the kite was jerking around a bit with full tension on the lines i managed to cut my leg while escaping this beast. luckily it was a pretty minor cut but still bled a bit and stung heaps. just wondering if peter lynns have a tendincy to suddenly crash (it was about 15-20 knts) or was it the kiters fault? and has anything bizarre happened to u in kiting, would love to hear it.

Hey Dustin, where did this happen - maybe you looked tired and the PL rider thought you needed a rest. Were you both going in the same direction or riding towards each other. If you were riding towards each other and he was upwind, he should have kept his kite high and you kept yours low. If you were both going the same direction, he shouldn't have been that close to you.

The same thing happened to me with echostorm about 3 months ago on a really windy day out off Mudjimba beach about 200m off shore - same thing suddenly there was a TD in front of me in the water with the lines either side of me. I tried to boost out of the lines but my harness got caught up in the lines. Luckily it was someone I knew and we knew each others abilities so were able to work it out without any drama.

I've had a similar thing happen but in my situation the other kiter flying an inflatable kite.....it's just something that happens. Thankfully you came out ok.

As far as I understand the Peter Lynn kites are very stable in the air so it may be that a gust took it or something happened so the kiter lost track of where the kite was at the time.

I have a story

I was at point henry in melnourne and at this certain place the wind comes in windlines so we were standing on the beach waiting for the next windline to come through. my freind was holding my kite on the beach unhooked and he started to get dragged a little bit i told him to give the kite back to me so i hooked in and walked towards the water a bit. I felt a gust and it started pulling me towards a kite that was on the beach so i jumped over it and then i went up. some people were saying I went about 50 foot high. i was then travelling over the water and as soon as i got out of the thermal i dropped out of the sky. It was only about 2 feet deep but it was muddy and weedy so it was a soft landing. the scary thing was i had my kite in the corner of the window over the water and it still took me straight up. if i had my kite in the other corner of the window over the beach it probly would have pulled me that way and I would have broken something by landing on the beach. thermals and updrafts and gusts can come out of nowhere and by the time u think about pulling your qr you are already to high. I was lucky

generally the opposite. the kiter wasnt watching what they were doing or stuffed up.

Id say kiter because had that same experience with a guy on a cabrina not long ago he lost his board and was waveing at me so I went to look for his board and as Im crusing along he dropped his kite 2m unfront of me I thin I poped his bladder as I tried to clear myself from his kite hopeing that the dame thing wouldnt relaunch while im in the middle of it but all good go out hoped on my board and rode away he got picked up by a boat that was close by, but dustin is scary when a kite just drops in front of ya from nowhere isnt it

The IMPACT caused a lot of HAVOC, it felt like being hit by a RHINO. Rumour has it someone may have been charged with ASSAULT. This inturn may cause a SHOCKWAVE that would FLOW through the whole kite community. At least you weren’t bitten by a SCORPION, then you would be RAVEN about haven to suck the VENOM out of his WAROO.

I need some decent wind...only 2 sessions this week

Forget what kite he's on. Its called kite tailgating and its against AKSA safe kiting guidelines. How were you supposed to turn around/ perform a trick not get knocked off your arse when he/she's that close.KNOB.

Good positive vibes............to be put above the galah thread.

you must have a good set of binoculars all the way from WA with your aksa kiting book, maybe you could be like a - i know an aksa police person who could ticket offenders, you know those "knobs" that want to risk life and crash there expensive gear, but that's if you could find your way back to realty. The most you could do is appologise and call a knob a knob to his face!!
