i am very dissapointed with the attitude of some of the kiters at elliot heads over the easter weekend. my son asked several kiters to help him launch his kite and was totally ignored by them. he also had the same problem landing his kite.my son is not a complete beginner and can kite upwind and do small jumps. i dont understand this attitude that if they dont know you then f.... you.i dont see this with sailboarders who are only too happy to give strangers a hand if required.

Yeah thats not right jester,it shouldnt matter if your son is a beginner or total shreder,we should all help each other out.Hopefully the guys that ignored him get into trouble out there one day and no one helps them.Karma will get em.

Specifically who did he ask? Where was he set up? If he'd asked any of our local crowd (from Hervey Bay I mean), we would have been more than willing to help him out.....no questions asked. We were just near the boat ramp.

On a different note, I think a lot of the guys who were on the water this year really needed to learn some manners. I had a guy on a windsurfer come up on me from behind at a billion miles an hour and just yelled at me to get out of the way as he blasted through. Quite apart from anything else, if you're upwind of me where I can't see you, *and* going way faster than me, it's *your* responsibility to work out where the fk you're going *before* you're in any danger of colliding with me, *not mine*!! Ferchrissake Then there was the guy who cut upwind in front of me, attempted a jibe (which he fkd up royally), fell in the water right in front of me and nearly got himself a nice fin gash in the head from my board as I tried desperately to pull up before I got to him

With that many ppl on the water, a bit of common sense is required! The number of ppl who don't understand (or don't give a rat's arse about) the give way rules is damned scary.

mr bonk, my son set up further down the beach to be out of everybody way near that group . i was talking to the guys near the boat ramp and yes you guys were much freindlier. next time my son comes down to elliot i will introduce him to you guys as he is a little shy about talking to other kiters as he has had soom bad experiences. last year it was the wipika guys who ignored him. as for the sailboarer giving you a hard time well we cant all be considerate i suppose

I think a lot of the guys who were further down the beach were from Brisbane? Don't quote me on that though.

Hey, was your son one of the young blokes with the 5m slingy in the kitebuggy? I was talking to them while I was standing on the beach right up the far end waiting for my GF to come back in. They were having a ball

Nah, we turned up early Monday morning while it was still raining and decided to just head home instead. It was looking pretty ordinary and I had a bunch of stuff to do before I got back to work today

I was at Elliot and thought it was a great vibe, although i was hanging out with the Hervey bay crew. Boards and kites were being lent to the local grommies so they could get out. I think an old board was even given to the one of the groms but dont quote me.

Next year, get your young fellow to hang out with the crew that has been going there for years. We love to see youngsters having a go and are more than happy to grab kites or even lend gear. This is what kiting is all about!!

Those 2 groms (Dale and Brayden) are the funniest dudes Talk about fearless.....actually, that's the only reason I decided to try backroll kiteloops. Earlier in the week, Dale came in and said "Hey, check out this new trick I just learned." and proceded to go out and whip them off one after another. Put me to shame, so I had to try and catch up!

Hey,

I was with some of the people that were further down the beach. I'm from Brisy, and it's the 3rd year we've gone to Elliott Heads. I would be shocked if you had asked any of our group to catch or launch your kite and they refused, thats just not the culture where we kite. Most people stuck to their groups, and only asked someone else from their group to launch/land their kite. I did see your son, on the grey/black Caution, hope he had as much fun as we did, Elliott Heads turned it on this year.

I was also shocked at the behaviour of some of the kiters there, practicing self launches surrounded by families and kids playing on the beach, Hitting people on the beach when they stuffed up and not even being apologetic, like the general public were in the way. But maybe there was a reason they were doing this...?

Maybe we should all get together and an evening drink next tome and get back to being more social with other kiters like it was in the past.

Hey, I thought that might have been you. My GF and I met you a couple of years ago while we were camping there for Easter (near the road, getting eaten alive by sandflies). We tried to get a camp site for this year, but when I rang the park they told me they had nothing left, even though when we got there on Monday it was almost deserted No idea what that was about. Definitely want to try to get a spot for next year though.

It certainly was hectic on the beach.....lots more ppl around (non kiters I mean) than I seem to remember from previous years! I guess the best solution is to stick to the far end of the beach when the tide goes out enough so there's no-one running around under your lines while you're trying to launch/land. Pain in the arse hauling all your gear right down there (and then leaving it there if you go back up for lunch), but much better from a safety aspect.

Who did you see doing the crazy self-launches? With that many other kiters around, I'm surprised anyone felt the need!

Hey - Yeah, I remember talking to you and wondered if you were there this year. Think I smiled at your chickie a coupla times out there. I bought a cardboard after chatting to you that time.

I'm undecided about going next year as the tide will be flowing in all afternoon, which is crap... but they're already 70% booked for next easter, so if you're gonna book it do it now. I'm still stratchin at them bites!

It was mostly flat kites I saw doing self launches, learning how to launch by pulling on the lines.

Oh and commiserations to the red kite that hit the rocks and popped on Sunday, that was bad luck.

Oh yeah....the guy with the Sonic. We saw him too....holy dangerous batman! We were thinking about suggesting that he might like to head off down the far end of the beach away from the ppl. It really scares me seeing that sort of stuff go on....only a matter of time before we get bans if that continues

I heard that kite go in on the rocks.....went off with a hell of a bang! Luckily it was only the kite that hit them and not the rider too....they're really very sharp just there

Heh We just need to make sure we don't get that site right up near the road again. We've stayed in a different spot before and the sandies weren't too bad.....up near that little gazebo thing in the middle.

Looking at the tides for next year, it might be better the week after Easter, instead of before like we usually do.
