A friend and I were having a discussion the other day about what backgrounds the majority of kiters come from - just wondering if you are all ex wind sports like windsurfing and sailing, or from board sports like snowboarding, skating, surfing and wakeboarding?

Hey Chezza,

In our school we always check the background of our students and it would be a three way split. 33% board sports, 33% windsports and 33% other.

A few years ago it was mainly wind sports, but now it is people from all walks.

Cheers,

I'm from a non kiting background.
Whatever went before is obsolete & totally redundant.
Its simply what I used to do when I should have been kiting instead.

Used to sail Lasers when I was younger, that helped me the most I reakon. Decent enough board skills for basic kiting can be gained in an arvo, the wind is a harder beast to master..

Sailing when younger, but snow boarding, skating, skurfing when older.

Kiting's the best thing I've found since snow boarding. By far.

in regard to kitehards observation of a three way split in kiters backgrounds.... are we to believe the remaining one percent are made up of bikies....?

Sailing: Pelicans, Flying Ants, Cherubs, Lasers

Surfing..

Still prefer a good surf over a kite but i definately come back with a smile more often when kiting than surfing.

At least Perth has good wind (usually)
