i wondered the other day as to how i could make my kite perform better and i decided it must be filled with something besides air.
so i got a canister of nitrogen took it to the beach and proceeded to fill my struts and leading edge. A fellow kitesurfer came up to me and gave me a right talking to about why this wouldnt work, i just laughed and asked him if he was so sure it wouldnt work wether he would want to put a bet on it, he laughed alot and then said i'll roshambo you that it doesnt work so i said your on.
I laid my lines out and put on my wettie then got someone to launch my kite.
i was off and going unsure wether or not it had had any effect or not. i tacked back to the beach and the fellow was there looking pretty smug and shouted "i guess you loose loser" and i said "not so fast my friend, not so fast" i tacked back out and saw a bit of a wave and a gust coming and lined it up perfectly not sure wether the nitrogen would give me the extra height i would need. BAM up i went i was really flying i was so high up that i actually jumped over a bow kiter that was already jumping over a C kite, it was amazing it was like i was a bird, i actually turned the jump into a transition and floated back to shore where i landed my kite and kicked the guy in the nuts.
moral of the story is if helium wont make your kite fly better cocaine will.
p.s. i was on a C kite.

bed time story?? i was down the beach the day this happened, you should have seen the looks on everyones face, expecially the guy who got roshamboed dont think he will be playing with himself for a while.

trolling? whats this trollzor you speak of? i think you will find previous posts have been to do with kites and helium, if you read my post properly you will find i filled it with nitrogen.
p.s. i was just trying to tell people about my wonderous adventure no need to cut me down.

Hey mate did you drop out of chemistry? Pure Nitrogen gas is not flammable, compounds like the nitro methanol or whatever you much are completely different,

Nitrogen is not flameable and makes up about 70% of the air we breath, 16% oxygen and the rest is carbon dioxide and others. The percentages might be slightly out but filling a kit up with Nitrogen is just like pumping it up with air.

Now the attomic mass of Nitrogen is 14 and the atomic mass of Helium is 4 so its about a third of the weight of air.

23 litres of Nitrogen weighs about 14grams. How many pumps does it take to fill an LEI, pump pump pump... A litre of air is about 10cm cubed, a 14m Lei with an average radias of 10cm has about 439.2 litres of air (not wanting to be precise) and this weighs about 270 grams so filling with Helium weighs about 76 grams so you would save 200 grams.

Give up the big macs you will fly higher!!

Now filling a V19 Peter Llynn with helium, the PL 19m x 1m x 0.3m (assumed 19msq x .3m average depth )has about 5700 litres of air and filling this with helium would save about 2.5 kg, ie you could lift 2.5kg if the kite was full of helium and air tight.

Something for the arcusers to muck about with.

80 foot plus soz to say but i dont think your kite is 430L because you would have to do 110 full pumps to inflate it.

a full pump to me is down all the way and up again
