I have been kiteing for 3 years and have just switched to a bow kite.
What is the best way of boosting big on these babys?
Can get reasonable air but cant seem to dial in getting right up there like I could on my old beast.

Ive found that if I send it past 12ish it kills the jump.......sooo guessing send it only to 12, edge hard, release and sheet in hard.

Have only had 1 session on the new girl so havent had much time to play around yet.

Thoughts,opinions please

get lots of speed. send the kite to about 1 oclock/ 11 oclock. when you feel the kite pull you push off. as soon as your off the water strat bringing the kite back to 12. for massive air leave it there for a bit and then on landing dive the kite hard in the direction you are going. try this off a wave or swell and you will go even higher.

ok,so pretty much the same for bows as other kites.
Just need to dial in my timeing on the new girl.cheers

Was getting plenty of height on my old kite,no worries at all,but couldnt get it together on the bow.Was impressed with everything else about it,just couldnt boost as high, but just need to get use to it a bit.

The old time on the water thing I guess, green arrows all week...new kite....I can feel a sickie comming onsniff, sniff,,,cough.

For a little more excitement

dive the kite nearly to water at max speed (in a good gust) then pull that 'Hoe' back as hard as you can charging straight through the power zone (45) - pick a wave or wind swell & jump as it gets to 11 oclock, it will still be pulling hard & take it to 9 oclock yes 9! you should be right up there at Horizontal angle to water.

Then show that 'Hoe' whos boss & pull hard on front hand, steering into wind at 12 this will give you a second lift if timed properly from speed of kite then prepare for a softy landing.

ps the wind wave behind a white caper is the steepest smoothest best launch ramp

pss if you dont pull front hand hard & fast at 9 - that Hoe will Slap you hard

Ride as fast as you can with as much load as you can manage, and crank it hard
to 1 oclock. pull it from down low it one hard motion. If you can line up a wave, all the better and bigger.

Kitesurf at this beach in St. Maarten when the planes are taking off in the right direction. All you need to do is line up your kite with the plane and let them do all the work.

I have been riding SB's for the last three years .
the best way for massive booost.... is to ride well powered , sheet the bar out as you send the kite the opposite way ( this allows it to fly faster accross the window) then when the kite is at about 1-2 use your pop and sheet in and begin bringing the kite back........

for massive massive boost it is critical that you get the pop and the sheeting in timing correct........ a steep wave or kicker will also help send you into space

i have been practising boosting offthe waves for the last couple of months with a Ozone 13 mtr sport. Speed, edge, kite at 11 and wave timing do the trick big time, you will be very pleased with the height you get ,,,just dont let the bar out when you get up there!! or have the kite to low prior to take off or you will get face slapped big time

its a great rush zooming up these shots were on a small wave day, bigger wave bigger air i love it

Anyone have any more newbie tips for boosting?
I've been trying what the Progression Beginner DVD reckons but its not working so well... I've nailed a few good ones but it's never repeatable.
I get the kite at 10ish, go downwind to pick up some speed then edge hard whilst sending the kite to 12 fully sheeted in. I'm releasing the edge just before the kite hits 12 (from my perspective anyway).

Sometimes I go up, other times I skim along the surface downwind then slow down using my face.

I've watched a bit of the Progression Intermediate DVD and they tell you to edge hard, crouch on the board and spring up. Is this just for tricks or does it work well for jumping normally?

Wind looks the goods for tonight so I'm going out overpowered for some kamikaze style practice

POP ( turn downwind then edge hard upwind ) - use your board to edge and generate the pop just as your kite reaches 11 ( or 1) this will stop you from swinging under the kite and down wind.... It is also worth noting that when using a bow kite ( well powered ) you do not need to approach the jump with heaps of speed ( unlike with a c kite where you do need to to generate the pendulum swing ).

You can almost do two different styles of jump on a bow kite
1) fast speed = a long high trajectory
2) well powered slow but lots of pop results in a more straight up jump

Practice at slow speed so you get the hang of the timing between the pop and sheeting in your kite. When you are confident start building up the speed and before you know it you will be going big.

Good luck and I know you will be having fun

hey 'frost' you said fully sheeted in as your coming up to 12o'clock......i found (depeniding on kite) that being halfway or so then waiting for the boost then sheeting in all the way just before you leave water works for me, sumtimes nail it other times smash it ..........timing is the key, for me anyway.

timing is everything!!!! and each kite is different... keep practicing man.. you,ll make it don't be afraid of being aggressive with a bow kite.

everyone heres giving good advice

Generally I find that you have to send the kite back further than you think you need to. With mine, I get a jump, and then if I pull on the bar, I get a nice boost up faster, which is think is typical of Bows/SLEs.

Have fun!

I find when riding a bow you need to hold a fair bit of speed with the bar about half way in, then sent the kite hard to 11/1 o'clock, when it passes 12 then pull the bar in hard and hold it all the way past the apex of the jump. Best jumps have been on a 9M. Love the T3's, they give you so much hang time, pull the stopper ball in when leaving the water to lock the bar at full power and throw a dead man with a general, I call it the Dead General.

I disagree with this method, I think you can go just as big if not bigger if you are just comfortably powered.
Hangtime might be longer on a bigger kite but you can go just as high on a smaller kite due to the faster turning speed and the fact that you can edge/pop better IMO.

cheers for the advice,
got out today in some better winds and threw it around a bit harder, got some better air, just gotta get the timeing right.
different to my old kites, fell like a brick on one boost when I acidently let the bar out, bows really dump power if you sheet out.lesson learnt
all good fun,
winds gunna be honking again tomorrow, happy days

I feel for you lotofwind stepping down to a bow and all. I tried for ages but it never felt the same. So I found with bows its all about using the depower (accelerator),coming from an old c you may even find your edging harder than needed.
