Looking at heading down that way for the long weekend.
West and north west winds forcasted.I have kited the lakes at foster with west winds but not hawks nest.
Is the flat water at hawks nest any good in westerlies?
Anyone else heading that way?
cheers.

Bagnalls beach at Hawks nest is good in a westerly. Otherwise Tiona lake. Both are flatwater.

not being a smart ass but baggies is on port Stephens side.. jimmy's beach is the hawks nest side.. and although its only a few k across its about an hour to drive.. however you can kite both spots in a NW but jimmy's is probably the pick as baggies gets pretty gusty.. Wallis lake at tiona park (Forster) is great in any west wind.. just park at the sailing club and you will have a ball in clear brackish waist deep water.. but i warn you it has its own whether pattern up there .. i have been here at Anna bay (port Stephens) while its blowing 30+ knots and driven up to Wallis.. only about 1 1/4 hour away and its been dead still.. that's for the flat water spots.. but if you like surf.. well there's is only one spot to go in a westerly.. and thats my local

For the brave, you can actually kite at the top of Anna Bay on the ocean side (top end of Stockton Beach) in a westerly -- but do keep in mind that's the spot where the guys were catching white pointers off the beach last year... And believe it or not, it's straight sideshore in a westerly as the beach faces almost dead south.

Where do you rig up and kite at Jimmys?Right in front of the caravan park or is it better out near the sand spit in a NWester.

the sand spit is a great spot but its a long walk.. you can take a 4wd but on a long weekend without a permit its not recommended.. if it was me i would risk it but i don't want to give any bad advice..there's a good car park at the caravan park or if you follow the road past it south you will see various spots to park very close to the beach.. just check which way the wind is and pick your spot.. you cant go wrong.

Thanx milko,I will be staying in the caravan park so would be good to just walk out the front and rig up and go.I have a 4x4 so if its easier to drive up the beach further to get better wind direction I will be doing that.Shhhhhh the ranger might be listening.lol

yeah! definatly worth heading up to the spit.. the way the beach dips away you can walk 50 mtrs out on the spit and already be 100 mtrs out the back.. its a bit like a downwinder..gets some waves there to on the right swell.. last time i was there they were doing a bit of sand dredging.. if its blocking the beach you will see the tracks that kinda go behind the beach.. its easy..

ide just watch how much to the NW it is, because it will probley be blowing out through the heads, and find a clear spot to launch, theres sticks everywhere!
