Hey everyone,

I am looking to get into kiteboarding but I haven't found a place that will give me a chart for weight and kite size. Does anyone know what size kite I might use? I am 103 lbs. and the wind speeds here are anywhere from 5-20 mph. I am also 5'2" tall (I don't know if that matters, thought I'd add it in case it did.).

Thanks everyone! :)

Hi there electricd,

At 105 lbs (46 Kilos) in 5-20mph winds (4-17knots), you should look at another sport for winds below 12 knots. Maybe landboarding with a kite??? Have a look at our website for ideas and then try and find a local supplier for MBS or Ground INdustries mountainboards. Take a look at Ozone Access 2 XC kites, probably an 8m for you.

For the few knots above 12knots and below 17knots, for your weight, I would recommmend a 10-12m kite. A board will be a problem for you being so light, but something around 128 x 36 would be good.

Most kite company wind ranges are based on a 75 kilo (165 lb) rider so they wont be any help to you in any case.

I would recommend you call up a good local school, do a few lessons, then ask the instructor what they recommend for you. They will know the best locally available kites and also the local wind ranges and places to kite.

I hope this helps you. Good winds,

Try and find out whether anyone else Kiteboards in your area. if they do head down to the local spot and ask them some questions.
