high winds have nothing to do with light winds.....
no claims about flying in 7-9 knots accepted
17-37 knot claims accepted ......
37 + knots claims accepted with sceptisim ...

I can remember a day way back, when Reli and I had 12mxbow 1 and were in some silly wind........the kites were just fabric fluttering in the air.....today I we would be using a 7 or 9 max. It was an ugly winter day but man did we have a good session...still memorable today.

It seems the Hydra's come with a free pack of magic mushrooms to help the owners create over elaborative claims.

Light wind or high wind, there seems to be one definative way of qualifying the posted performance from the Genetrix flyers;

Be there when they are on the water!

Bring your best / fastest (no brand pun intended) kite (for the conditions) and challenge the claims.

I'm sure the Genetrix boys would gladly rise to the challenge.

Better still, conduct some registered speed trials in various conditions, with all proceeds going to charity.
Kite drag racing should sort out the slow ones in the herd

Sounds like the Paza speed strip could be in for a workover

My issues with the genetrix hydra posts are as follows:

1. Anyone who uses a name of a kitebrand as their online nickname hardly qualifies as a credible poster. One is called Genetrix and the other Hydra...hmmm... I.e. if I used the name slingshot and constantly posted about slingshot kites would you trust me? What do they do if they find a kite they like better?
2. The water looks shiny on the surface, that normally doesn't happen if there is any wind on the surface. I've ridden when the water is shiny, its generally as a result of stronger wind higher up than on the surface. For example, I've ridden powered at Altona in 10 knots when the wind was clearly stronger than that. I was able to do 3m jumps. I didn't create delusions of grandure by thinking I had personally discovered the holy grail of light wind kites, i accepted that the conditions created a false reading. Some locations will always read slightly different to the actual conditions. At brighton in vic, the wind 100m out is generally 3 or 4 knots stronger. The beach has a very false reading.
3. I don't feel the need to ride to SA just to find out whether these super kite actually exist
4. what do they have to gain by posting these light wind posts other than pure pimpage? No one asked the question, they started the posts. It wasn't posted as a review of the kite, it was a pure pimpage post and they were shocked when they got a general response to a pure pimpage post.

Yes saffer you have it all very wrong,

1. I have the forum nickname Genetrix because I love the hydra series of kites and Iam a kite speed freak ,which genetrix is one of the major players in trying to become the quickest sailing craft on the water. Its just a name dude.
2.I find it very funny that you are having trouble beleiving we can kite in 8 to 10 knots . We have been doing it for 7 years on all types of kites and brands . We have a crew of guys with a massive amount of experience with wind and water. I have been sailing since I was 10 years old and windsurfed for years before I started kiting. The windhogger windsurfed for 20 or so years and hangglided before that. The other guy in the pics and vid is a life member of the local gliding club and raced yachts very successfully around south Australia for 25 years. We know all about the weather conditions and wind strength and we are not making false statements or trying to fool you or anybody.
3. We dont have a super kite its just a kite that suits me and the other local speed guys .
4. We dont sell them so how can that be pimping, I dont think anybody sells them in Australia just yet. We see it all the time over here when other guys cant even get up on the boards its that light and we are cruising around so it wasnt a shock to see you and others kicking up.

OK Saffer,
So... just for your benefit, next time we do a light winder, I will use my old (but still holds air, just!!) 16m 2002 Gaastra GXS proto semi flat kite. Now.... that biach has got some low end. Might put the pimping issue to rest!!

Word to the Genetrix guys, dont try and pimp what ur riding (and yes this is pimping even if u dont sell them, which ive heard is not the case anyway!) and u wont get howeled down! Oh yeah and just a quick questions boys why is it whenever there is a event on down here in SA u guys come up with a poxy excuse not to ride ie toxic water, etc!

To everyone else ignore them and hopefully they go away! Silence is deafening.

Its A PUBLIC forum and some people do want to know what is going on out in other places even if you and others think we are pimping, just because we ride a kite that no body has it suddenly is pimping. For the last time I dont sell the kites, get it in your head.

And you seem to be so obsessed that you missed the minor comment in his post which says "and yes this is pimping even if you don't sell it". Pimping is generally pimping when you are overly enthusiastic towards one brand, like naming your forum name after the brand. You may also be shocked to find out that people generally take the posts with a pinch of salt, because anyone who loves their kite enough to name themselves after their kite is, well, a little enthusiastic and probably prone to pimping.

You may also be shocked to find out that nobody has problems with hearing about your experiences with new kites, whatever brand they might be, in fact *shock* *horror*, would you believe they even have a forum dedicated to it called R E V I E W S so you can post your experiences with a kite using a particular format? Yes, this new forum has only been there for the last couple of years and has this amazing format that helps riders use a standard format so they don't neglect minor things, like mentioning the riders weigh 50kg's which would typically be relevant for a light wind post. This is what the template looks like:

If relevent, please fill in this template...(& remove this line)

Rider: Weight,Level (beginner,intermediate,advanced)
Style: Freeriding, Surf, Wake, Freestyle
Weather: ?-? knots
Build Quality: ?/10
Satisfaction: ?/10
Disclosure: (e.g. work at a shop/team rider etc)

My Comments:

Should you choose to use this template in future, you may discover that people may actually take your review a little more seriously than "Check us styling in 8-10 knots - oops by the way, did i forget to mention the riders weigh less than most people did at birth"

I had my first 35knot+ sess on my first time kiting not having done any wakeboarding or anything wind related

Just having done a snowboard season I had travelled and tried 3 different spots (not all in the same country) but just missed the tail end of their seasons.

Ended up in one flat location where you could wade out to waist deep about 800m out and several km's of downwind space but the weather was cranking. The instructor knew i'd missed out several times and had travelled to this point for a few days to learn.
I weigh 65kgs and am fairly short and learnt with a bigger guy we referred to as the 'anchorman' for that day. Easily 6ft and 95kg.

We pumped up the 4m wipika training kite and rigged it halving the lines to 15m lines.
The instructor launched the kite and got the 'anchorman' to hold on to her while we walked out. I would hang on the back of the instructor while she body dragged and vice versa. Then I went on my own but had to be unhooked so i could just let go of it........... brings a whole new meaning to the words 'salmon leaping' ha ha
Learnt to relaunch it aswell.

Next up was the board water start.......... a directional board at that with no leash of course and helmets all the way. Still no hooked in action so my first water starts were unhooked with a kite that resembled the speed and twitchiness of a bumble bee. I went over the board a few times that day but i got some runs in and out by the end of the day going down wind of course. To show how strong the wind was, the anchorman was up on the board aswell and probs was better than me - ex windsurfer!

Anyway, heaps of fun... heaps of space and it was easy to just let go of the bar.
I was going back and fourth on a bigger kite by the end of the week on a 4 line 12m/twinny in steadier winds making ground.

Obviously the space and the fact no one was around in weather like that gave me the chance to learn. Any other time or place would have been a big no no down to safety.

I quote - "parham in 10 knots. 12 and 14m hydra" - no mention of weights in the first post talking about kiting under 10 knots.

Blind? I think not. I very clearly see no rider weights in your initial post. The comment about a baby is a figure of speech and a joke, but obviously you missed this...
