Hey Fitzy, that board is beautiful! Well done, love those colours too.
I'm jealous. Looks like making boards is very satisfying. I haven't done the "home handyman" thing in years. Looking at your product, and the joy it must have given you to make it, I'm tempted to give it a go. Doesn't look easy though, following a recipe, lots of love and practice...and in time voila!
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Nick.
Very satisfying but time consuming to get that standard of finish in the backyard boatshed. Had no recipe, just winged it as I went.
Reckon the next ones will be better though as I learned a lot about working with Carbon Fabric and epoxy. Am making a 142x39 and a 120x39 high winder.
Probably will be dead soon though from the cyanide fumes in the two pack urethane.
Carboninit - The board wighs 1.3 kg fully kitted.

Fitzy nice one .Why are you coating the finish ?You can get an additive that goes with the epoxy to make it UV Stable. .Saves coating it.

Word here is all the pros are going wider ? Fitzy try 380 wide its really shweet .Its all to do with the ends and flex .Has your board got flex?. All our boards are 380mm wide and it works .We have no plans to change the width. Gotta have flex.

Finally had a chance to give my new board a real workout yesterday. Fully lit on a 10 at Cervantes in the flat water. It absolutely rocks! It performed better to windward than my airrush switch 135, really held an edge like you wouldn't believe, but then popped so sweetly. I've never boosted so well
Only problems
1 - the footstraps are really cheap, and you can tell. Gonna upgrade.
2 - foot pads are a little too far apart. I copied the positioning from the airrush Xpact board, but just feels a bit wrong to me.
3 - slight tendency to dig the nose occassionally. Suspect this is being on a shorter board than I'm used to.
Gotta try it in the waves some time.
For anyone contemplating building a board, I say go for it. Such a sweet feeling being on soemthing you've made, and have it outperform the pro's.

Hey Carboninit.
Thanks for the tip on the UV Stabilisers. I coated the board with 2 pack Urethane for this reason. I painted the bottom white to prevent it from getting hot on the beach. The top gets hot if left exposed to the sun. Will make some enquiries at the suppliers re the UV stabiliser.
The board I made is actually 390mm wide. Are you suggesting that this is too wide or did it just look narrower in the pic? It appears narrower due to the black frame I painted around the edge. It is actually 1320 X 390 mm. (132X39)
Was thinking that I might incorporate some 5mm carbom tubing in the next one to strengthen it under the heels and toes for jumping and to control the flex. What do you think of this?

Fitzy 380 wide and play with the width on the ends .Honest if you make it to wide you have to compensate this in the rails.5mm will control flex in the length, but wont help for compression. Use plastic waste pipe from your kitchen where compression is high. Think about it.Its wickedly simple. The stuff were making ,the big boys are trying to catch up.I love it.Fitzy if you want pics of this email me .Are you vacuum bagging ?
