so next step in progression, got me some sweet as bindings.

got to change the size, so spent an hour or 4 with screw drivers and curses and steam coming out of ears.
i can now get into them, but they are still proper tight across bridge/toes.

before i irreversably drill new holes and give them some slack... how tight should they be? will they loosen up in the water? i wet them down to slip my foot in, but will they loosen more in the water? does your foot shrink a bit in the cold water elements?
because they are surrounding your foot, does this mean they essentially dont need the same 'top of foot' lock down pressure as straps, so i can go for more of a relaxed fit?

im sure someone else will be able to help you more but yes your foot will shrink a lil with being in cold water, when i've been wakeboarding before we have always used dishwashing soap to put the boots on they are that tight and when you jump in the water it washes away and leaves a nice snug fit

they will stretch to your foot shape after a few rides, it will just take a bit of getting used to.
and no, you definitely do not want a 'more relaxed fit.' if one foot comes out on a stack and one stays in you will regret it big time.

^^^+1

Lock those feet in nice and tight, i made the mistake of running with loose laces, easy in easy out i thought, but even a small stack could see one foot out and you getting a serious injury i was lucky only to get a sprain but do my boots up tight now so the board only comes off in the biggest crashes.

What size board you got them on, and what brand are the bindings?

right. cheers for tips.
il let the inner impact foam bits stretch out a bit and then readjust the silicon outer tighter again for the snug fit.
glad i asked before attacking the foam bits with drill!

got a 138, and the bindings i cant seem to find referred to online anywhere. i think they have been updated, the are the LF Unions. i think they have been updated to U2's.

i think i understand... im remembering hanging from my kite with one foot out of straps, kicking like a bitch to get rid of the board from my other foot before touch down. i see where your going with that.

again cheers for tips. cant wait to use the thing... wooop.

unions can be a bitch to get in and out of, you have to learn to wriggle your foot and point it at the same time. try a pair of boots with laces and you'll never go back

considering that i havent even been in the water with these puppies yet i might just see how we go before i indulge in the high rotation upgrading binge cycle

its actually not the ankle in/out bit thats too tight at the moment, its the high density foam bit right across the toe knuckles/ foot arch. i assume this is going to stretch out a bit and il be laughtering.

If you get them new and they are too tight, you may want to try wearing them in a hot bath for a while. Helps loosen them up a bit but you don't want to loosen them too much. Other thing I've seen guys do is put a wine bottle in them and leave it overnight but thats mainly with laceups where you can tighten them down again.

and you shouldn't have to go drilling holes anywhere- both the inner and outer wraps on unions have adjustment holes on both sides.

Unions in particular stretch quite a bit. Like Stamp said, ride a few times and you'll be right but try pre-stretching if it's going to shorten your session too much.

appreciate the genuine advice lads.

also appreciate the other tight comments and imagery.

so... to summarise... if the nuns nasty is too tight stick a wine bottle in it overnight and take a hot bath. be sure to pre-stretch plenty. expect there to be lots of wriggling unless you go for the lacy type. dont consider drilling anywhere near the panama reef or you will end up injuring yourself.

..and as for the bindings, they should work themselves out.

bring on the weekend.

my personal preference is fairly loose - not shaking them around and your foot is flopping around inside loose - but so that they go on and come off easily. I cranked mine up tight and really regreted it.

i had some old unions and found by drilling through one of the holes used to hold down teh rubber i could get a kiteboard insert foot spread plus an extra few inches of stance width (old style bindings - pre 2008 i think), just needed 2 very long bolts

I've heard that called many things before, but never the panama canal!
