hi, I'm a newbie and just bough my 7 waroo kite 1 month ago.

i had an accident when i just started a lesson,so i have to wait 1&half month to recover my dislocated arm.
now, i'm fine and totally enthusiastic about kiting. However,I'm from KOREA to learn ENGLIGH which means when i have lessons i couldn't fully understand . the result of that was the accident.

Thus, I'm writing for some advise about my kite and skills.

I am 60kg so I bought 7 BEST WARoo kite that I was advised.
do you think that is suitable for me?
could anyone who have the same as mine tell about the kite and bar?

so far I've flew the kite 5times on the beach and watch DVDs a lot.
but i'm still scared flying the kite on the beach.
could you give me some useful tips how to fly a kite on the beach.
especially, about walking along the beach.

when the kite pull me up suddenly, I became tatally tensed.
on the other hand. I can;t wait to kite .

thanks . It's good place to be.AUSTRALIA.

Mojirida,
7m kite should be good for your weight. i would recommend eating pizza every night and try to drink as much of a slab of beer as you can handle every night. 60kg is waaaay too light, you need to put on weight

I'm not familiar with the Best kites, I would recommend you ask Kitehard (actionsportswa.com.au/) for a full run down, he's the instructor. Otherwise, head down to a shop that sells best kites and make sure you have your gear set up correctly. They will also give you some pointers.

Welcome to the sport dude. first of all 60 kgs is not that bad. I'm only about 68 kgs and I fly everything in all winds.

About flying the kite. I strongly suggest you fly your kite on the beach for hours to get the feel for it. Start by just flying the kite back and forth slowly. After a short while you'll feel confident and start flying it more aggressively. doing figure eights and match the pull from the kite by using your bodyweight and movements. Later on when you feel confident enough you can even run back and forth and get the feeling for jumping. It's GREAT fun and great for your abs. 30 mins of that is like 2000 pushups. Also by doing this you will crash a few times, land backwards and stuff and it's good to learn not to panic in these situations and start pulling randomly on the bar cause then things can go terribly terribly wrong very fast.

After you feel confident about that you can start body-dragging. Go out in the water and just fly the **** out of the kite like you did on the beach. You'll get absolutely drenched and swallow water, get disoriented and everything. This is great practice being able to keep the kite flying and controlled. I see sooo many people that crash their kite as soon as they fall of their board when trying to learn to ride it. There is NO EXCUSE for crashing your kite just because you wipe-out. Remember that, you should always be able to keep the kite in the air if you wipe-out.

Remember you steer the kite like a bike as in you pull the bar toward and away from you, not up and down.

Good luck with everything and I'll see you on the beaches dude

The size of your kite depends on the wind strength ...
most guys have 2 or even 3 kites to cover (handle) lite (light) and strong winds ...
7mtr for strong winds (20kts +) should be fine ...
but, you may also need to buy another bigger kite (9~12mtr) for liter (lighter) winds (less than 20kts) - it also depend on how long and wide your board ...
shorter board = bigger kite, longer board = smaller kite usually.

To get more confident (not scared) about flying your kite on the beach and/or water, you really need to understand english better and have more instruction (lesson)
*important to have someone to show you, when you are on the beach - very hard to get instruction from this forum because you need to understand 100% what to do ...
or, if you do a search on the web, you should be able to find some web-site in Korean language from kite-school in Korea - there are Korean kite-boarders for sure (actually, they were planning to have a Kite contest - along with windsurf contest, in Korea this month at the beach I think about 1~2 hours south of Seoul ... but I'm not sure if it is going to still happen or not ?)

When you 'walk' your kite along the beach: have your kite in the 11~1 o'clock position (that is straight above you in the 'neutral' position.

Good luck with your english in Australia mate!

Remember: do not try to fly your kite on the beach by yourself until you understand perfect what to do ... you maybe injure yourself more or other people on the beach !

also - one of the main caused of accidents, is not setting up your kite correctly..
Make sure you check the lines are tangle free, and each line is on the right place it should be on. there should be no tangles, or crossed lines. make sure the bridal is not caught on a wing tip or over the kite. Believe me - its easy to do this when you are excited and the wind is blowing.
check and double check your lines. develop a system that suits you, and stick to it.

before launching your kite, know exactly where your quick release is, and what you would do if you get into trouble.

dont kite where there are lots of people about.
find nice big empty beaches.
the more open space down wind from you. the better.
