We are a group of kiters in Northern NSW.(Lennox). Earlier this year we copped some flak in the papers etc and one of the comments was 'they dont even have a club.' So we have decided to start a club for social, lobbying etc. I know a little about club structure, excecutives, meeting minutes etc, but we dont know about the formalities of setting up a club. Do we have to register with some one, do we have register a name, and stuff like that. Can someone out there fill us in with the GO.
Thanks.

Don't know anything much about it myself, but in the latest AKSA mailout/AGM stuff, they mentioned that they have assisted a number of local clubs to start up. Try talking to someone from there. Certainly your club would have more clout if it is AKSA affiliated.

email me and ill give you the addy of the person did the paperwork side of thing for the CQKSA.Also when you do this talk to the sport and rec officer in your local council and the surf club ( if applicable )in your local area.ask them what they would like to see from your club.open the lines of communication early and it saves alot of hassles later.

Hey Wind Dummy,

If you go into the Department of Fair Trading or ring them and ask them for info on starting a club, they will give you a pack that explains how to set it up, how to write a constitution or use the one provided, how to elect a comittee and take records and pretty much most everything you will need to know.

You can start a bank account after you have registered and if you go to a couple of different banks and ask around, you will find some, like Westpac, have a society/club account which has no charges so long as you do not operate as a profit making venture. This is important because your small amount of funds can easily be wittled away by bank fees.

We used the same kit to start AKSA years ago. Good luck with your club and with the locals.

Cheers and good winds,

Darren Marshall

Hi wind dummy
We have begun a club in Byron... well, had 2 meetings so far. It would be good to join up as one larger group for the Byron/ Lennox/ Ballina area... especially since we all pretty much kite much the same spots, depending on the wind. A bigger group will give more clout for lobbying to keep beaches open to us, etc. Most of us know each other anyway.
Best to talk to Mike Walker. I think the idea is to be affiliated with AKSA. Mike is president of AKSA so should know the formal ins & outs.
Cheers
Greg

Thanks for everyones replies. None of the local kiters or our local instructor had heard of any meetings or club. Perhaps you Byron guys can inform Jason so he can tell everyone? or post club details on this forum?
