as there used to be and you live in Newcastle you are right . there is a section in the BOM climate averages where you can plot any years wind against the average .Guess what? in doing the last few years here the ave over the whole year is consistently down (with a few exceptions) do a search for your spot and see what you get

here is an example
www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/ncc/climateStatGraph.pl?g=A&p0=33.4:27.7&p1=32.7:26.2&p2=30.7:24.3&p3=28.1:26.1&p4=26.2:20.3&p5=28.4:26.1&p6=29.1:26.3&p7=30.6:24.9&p8=34.2:31.6&p9=34.4:27.7&p10=35.4:27.0&p11=35.3:31.5&p12=061055&p13=2008&p14=46&p15=46&c=-466510809840&t=SY&p=D&pStart=null&pEnd=null&pStartComp=null&pEndComp=null

when you look at the averages for your spot you will notice a little graph icon at the end of the wind ave button where it says 'plot"

Nice find.

How did you get that graph though? Is there a user friendly front end to your back door graph?

I did one for sydney for last year .More windthan ave in what many on the east cost would recognise as a crap year for wind.must be all the hot air coming out of sydney rising and being displaced by our cool sea air

At the risk of flogging a dead horse - I would suggest that the hot air is directly attributable to all Steve v Alex related aggression.

And in other news, we now return to the image spam:

nice find...

although it does not take into account wind direction, hence the graph is not equitable towards "Kitable" days.

heck, there are a lot of weather graphs which has no correlation to what I see outside my door, but that is another discussion!

PS: Windfinder also has a historic site, which gives you general wind directions for the different months of the year and frequency... like so: www.windfinder.com/windstatistics/swanbourne?utm_source=www.windfinder.com&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=redirect

yup wind has dropped a fair bit, winter last year was fairly good though compared to other years. May,June and july delivered excellent westerlies fairly consistantly but it dropped down as we got into spring.
anyway, southerly this weekend?
