Do you know how many inland lakes are scattered around Western Australia. Now ive been doing a little bit of home work and these places get heaps of wind (easteries) all the time in winter, while the coast is well frustrating.

so who's up for a little weekend camping trip, who up for it weekend exploration, couple of 4wd's, vans, station wagons and heaps of two minute noodels.

How about the salt lakes on Roto. They taste just as good on any wind direction.

I recieved an email from Brownee and have cut and pasted it here because for some reason his PC wont let him post on Seabreeze anymore.
This will be a fun weekend if we can get it of the ground.
Regards Allan

OK I've done some investigating on the weekend inland kite adventure and this is what I've come up with.

Wongan Hills Caravan Park
Wongan Rd
Wongan Hills WA 6603
Telephone: (08) 9671 1009
Rating: ***

should be the go for accommodation, can go ahead a book your own if you wish, powered tent sites are $20/night (bring you're own tent), self contained shallays that sleep 4 are $115/night or there is a 16 person self contained house/dorm for $380 all up. Only things required are food/drinks and toiletries (including towels).

The most important bit is they get wind..........................

Also I've found out that the lake in question is lake Ninnen, they use the lake for water sports, its deep enough for ski boats, I'm also trying to arrange a boat also (you will just have to pitch in for fuel).

I haven't set a date as I will see what response I get..........anyone is welcome........the more the merrier

i know of another lake called lake indoon near eneaba i use to sail there when i was a kid on surfcats. it is also popular for skiing it has a boat ramp and toilets and showers (they use to be cold)you can camp around a fair bit of the lake and there are some bbqs you would have to check with the local shire because i heard it had a algea problem a couple of years ago.

Brownee calls wind at Wongan.

What type of wind - off the easterlies, or frontal?

I believe the wind is Easterlies every morning. Fronts will change all this of course.

YEH LAKE INDOON IS NOT NEWS TO POLEBOARDERS.
HEAPS OF WAKEBOARDERS I KNOW GO THERE.
IT IS SEEDY WATER THO, DONT DRINK IT N THE BLUE GREEN ALGAE IS POSSIBLY STILL THERE.
I RANG UP ALL THE PLACES LAST YEAR ABOUT WHETHER IT IS SAFE AND THEY SED THEY DONT RECCOMEND SWIMMING IN IT BUT HEAPS DO.
THE POSSIBILITIES ARE STOMACH UPSETS, RASHES ETC.
THERE ARE HEAPS OF TREES IN THE WATER THAT POP UP IN PLACES TOO, I HAVE SEEN A FEW BOATS RIP THE BACK END OUT ON STUMPS.
BUT ON THE UPSIDE, THERE IS SUPER FLAT GLASSY WATER.

What about the Yarra Yarra salt lakes up near Three Springs/ Carnamah area 2.5 hours north of Perth. 35km long a couple of kms wide and usually a meter or two deep. I was thinking of driving down from Gero on a winter easterly one day and trying it out .The black mud may stink abit.I am still aching from the session a explosives on tuesday on a northerly waves outback and glassy flat over the reef.

Why oh why would you drive 3 or more hours to kite a festery lake filled with very gusty wind ,algae, mud , stink boats , old dead trees and sticks when a big, blue, beautiful, clean and wave filled ocean beckons ? Call me crazy but i just dont get it ...might make a nice photo though.

Have to agree with you "buster". Why don't you guys/gals take a look at the last 72 hours of wind data for rotto www.bom.gov.au/products/IDW65027/IDW65027.94602.shtml The average wind speed is 16.5knts for the entire 72 hour period. Avg gust is 21knts. The place is going off and is only half an hour away!!!
