I am going to visit my brother for a couple of weeks soon down in victoria. He lives not to far from Inverloch. He has no idea about kite surfing or the wind down there. He tells me that it is pretty windy most of the time though.

So for the locals :
Are there many good spots to kite around there?
What is the main wind direction in summer?
What strength winds should I expect?
on google maps inverloch and sandy point look ok for flat water. The coast looks pretty exposed to the southern ocean so I guess the swell is generally reasonably big down there, are there any well known wave spots?

Thanks in advance

Hi, just came back from there, it's mostly southerly and you have the choice of flat water or waves. Here is a link to the topic that at the bottom are some websites to check the wind down there.

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=59365

I believe the winds are normally 20 to 30 knts.

Hope this helps

Thanks andobear, when you say mostly southerly is that anything from sw to se? se looks like it would be cross/off shore, straight south would be cross/on and sw would be directly onshore. I am guessing that the southerly wind would be seabreeze, but what about frontal wind, would that be more of a westerly direction? I am just trying to figure out what wind I can expect according to the waether conditions.

Also if the average wind is 20-30knots should I leave my 12m at home? or is there lots of days with sub 20knots too? I weigh about 83kg

Do I need to bring a wetsuit, or are boardies and a rashie ok in summer down there?

definitely bring your 12. The wind is a mix of 10-30, not 20-30. I've ridden there more on my 13 than my 9m.

Another spot to look at it Sandy Point, its about 30min drive away and some insane flat water.
