Having a great session at Leighton today...until i did a carving turn , flew under my kite ..peter lynn venom2 ..kite luffed and hit the water ... i got it up again but it had inverted...ie leading edge facing upwards but the back of the kite face me. I managed to get it up in the air , 20 degrees above the sea level ...i decided to self rescue and go into shore..any hints on how to resolve an inverted foil kite.

I so rarely get it in the drink i think i might have a body dragging session , ditch it multiple times ,to practice relaunch!!

Jeremy,
Unfortunatelly with the foils, if they invert, it is almost impossible to fix them whilst on the water.
The old ARC's, you coud fly them inverted, low powe although, but enough to boddy drag back to a shore.
I think Venoms should do it too, you just have to try it.
Another issue to watch, if they crash, you have to get them flying within 15-20 seconds, not to let too much water to get into them, however, I was able to relauch them (even when stacked two) very easily.
Foils are great kites, unfortunatelly, are not so well supported locally, that's the reason I decided my next generation kites will be bow's.
It is anmazing how bow's are behaving just like my old ARC's.
Anyway, good luck with your kites.

Jeremy, I know the problem as I too have a V2 and have had this problem. Silviu is spot on about not being able to fix the problem on the water. You did the right thing to self rescue because I have found that in strong or gusty winds when this happens and you are using the inverted kite to drag back to shore, if you fly the kite too high, the kite can then bow tie and start to do a death spiral and it is not pleasant, you must release at once.
This has only happened to me once but it happened so it's good to be aware of it.
Apart from this slight snag they are a great fun kite to fly.

On the point of relaunch, if you are in a good wind and the kite is on the water grab the centre lines and give them 2 consecutive strong pulls and the kite will come off the water no probs but be ready to steer it to the widow edge away from the coast if possible as it will tend to head strait thru the power zone towards its zenith point which will take you by surprise and reef you out of the water as it happens so quickly in a good wind.

Regards

Marti

dude,
when its inverted, crash it downwind then swim towards it. the kite should flip over so that it is the right way again and facing upwards. then pull the front lines and up she goes. be careful with this method as you will get dragged a little bit as the kite races to the zenith.

cheers

The problem with this method is that in 3 out 0f 4 cases, the kite flipps over in such a way, you end up with twisted lines. you could fly the kite like that, however I find it unpleaseant as in good wind, there is alot of friction between the lines.

True, but you can fly back to shore powered up to fix the proplem on the
beach. Wear on the crossed lines for a few minutes would be minimal

My V2 16 inverted the other day. I just managed to keep it flying to drag me into shore. It didn't like to fly inverted very well at all. When I landed it on the beach then instead of righting itself it bowtied and started spinning,, yuk. One of lines wrapped in the middle and tied the bowtie nicely. I undid the lines and started from scratch and relaunched. That is one of the disadvantages I guess I have to contend with.
