If you are travelling with Sports Equipment on a Pacific Blue or Polynesian Blue international flight, your baggage allowance will not be increased, but your Sports Equipment will represent 5kg of your baggage allowance (regardless of the actual weight of the equipment).
As an example, assume your baggage allowance is 20kg, and you are travelling with a set of golf clubs:
* Your golf clubs will be considered to weigh 5kg (regardless of their actual weight).
* Your remaining baggage allowance will be 15kg (20kg total allowance minus 5kg for golf clubs).
* You will be able to take other checked baggage (such as a suitcase) weighing up to 15kg without incurring excess baggage charges.
Excess baggage charges will apply once your total baggage allowance has been exceeded.
Sporting Equipment includes but is not restricted to:
* Bikes
* Golf clubs
* Snow skis
* Surfboards
* Cricket/tennis bags
Sounds nearly to good with Pacific Blue, that means my surf bag could weigh 28kg and still got a suitcase with 15kg to take with.
Could someone confirm that deal?
Thanks,
Marco
Fly next month to Bali
Hi Marco. I think it means that your
total baggage weight is no more that 28kg. Best to call Virgin Blue to confirm. I've travelled several times with this limit plus a carry on bag and not had any trouble.
Hi Marco,
As stated it is exactly as it reads and your example will work fine, I have flown Pacific Blue/Virgin from perth to bali twice in the last and no issues at all(and I pack a lot of gear, more than any weight mentioned so far).
My only advice:
Take a double/triple surfboard bag. In it pack only sporting goods, surfboards, harness, bar and lines etc., technically you are not allowed clothes in this bag. This bag will count as 5kg of your allowance(even if it actually weighs 25kg)
Pack a separate bag for clothes and medkit, you be allowed up to 15kg in this bag.
If things are getting tight, place heavy items in your carry-on bag, or purchase a vacuum bag (
http://www.tradepoint.net.au/Space_Bag/Travel/spacebags_travel.htm) and use it to stash clothes in to save some room.
Always print off the international baggage policy from the virgin website and carry it with your flight intinerary, the check in staff do not usually know their own policy, you WILL need to show them.
Enjoy your trip
Matt
