Not bad ...... I have kited at the rivermouth and on the inside on the Murchison...the mouth was a bit sharkey ( arnt they all ) BUt if you stick close in on the northern side ( but open to the ocean ) there is some good flat shallow water ( about knee to waist deep ). JUst kite across the mouth to the sand headland on the otherside.

THe inside is super flat ....but in the SW it was a bit gusty on a full west I reckon it would be alright/ really good.

Kited Jakes 2 weeks ago, nearly got myself in a world of trouble when it looked the goods and was strong wind but it was very gusty going from 10 - 25knts. Took me a lot of tacks to get back in.
I hear that in summer the wind direction is better but when you kite it in a ssw like I did, the wind swirls too much as it rips over Red Bluff.
Launched just south of Jakes point where the reef ends and the beach starts.
Recommend you respect the surfers because like most places, we can annoy them.
Good luck

what about on the northern side of the river mouth? looks like some great flat water there and SW wind should come in nicely

Looks like some dirt roads on that side, anyone know how long it would take to drive over there?

Kalbarri is on my list for 3 week road trip next summer.

When are you up there?

I'll be there from 18-25 April but mainly it's a surf trip. I have kited the estuary before but it does get very gusty especially late afternoon when the wind turns SSW/SSE

I've heard there is a local who kites Jakes regularly but has come undone a number of times and consequently has totally trashed his gear more than once

30/40 mins south there are some good options on beach breaks but requires 4WD which I fortunatley have
