Hi bumblebee, welcome to the forum,

Someone on the forum with a greater knowledge than I will be able to answer your question, they may need a bit more information though.

What state are you in?

Have you kited before?

Have you had lessons?

What is your budget?

hey bumblebee,
as the previous post states a bit more info including where you gonna kite average winds etc, really the best people to answer these questions is your instructor, then get the opinion of other kiters but remember every ones kite is best, the best way to get the right answers is to ask the right questions, like what dont you like about your kite, why did you choose to buy that one and not (poiinting at his mates kite) that one, how many kites do you own, why etc, etc, why is yours pink and his racing green, does that make it better? anyway you get my point, to get you started tallking averages, your wight in 15kn -18kn you would want nothing bigger than a 10, maybe a nine, once again depending on the kite, look at getting a slightly bigger board for learning with, 140 maybe then when you can kite get a smaller one and keep the bigger one for light wind days.
Hope this helps and have heaps of fun, your gonna love it!!!!!

Hi Bumblebee,

It totally depends where you kite. If you kite here in the west, you'll probably need a 9 or smaller depending upon if you live in Perth or Geraldton. If you live in the east, a 10 or 12 might be more appropriate depending upon location like Sydney or Townsville.

As far as boards go, I'd look around for something between 132 and 135 long and around 39-40 wide.

Check with your local instructor and see what they recommend and be wary if they stand to make any monetary gain themselves as they will obviously be biased. It's always best to take a friend along who knows the sport well when buying stuff.

Good winds,

Good winds

What you really mean to ask is:

Are you hot?

Meaning...

If you are hot, I'll help you with lessons.

If you are hot, I'll personally take you around to the kiteshops and give you advice on what gear to buy.

Thanks for the replies so far - to give some further info:

What state are you in? SA

Have you kited before? Yes

Have you had lessons? Yes

What is your budget? Budget isnt the issue - just the size

I just want info from ppl that have no financial gain by offering me advice - I have had some conflicting advice from a couple of shops here.

hey bumblebee, my friend who is new to kiting bought a 9m slingshot fuel, he weighs around 60-65kg and this kite is ideal for him, it covers alot of range and he has progressed rapidly on this kite.

Miss B. My 2 cents worth. I have no affiliation with any shops or brands of kites. If you are initially going for a 1 kite quiver and looking to buy new also consider 9m 2007 best waroo, 9m 2007 naish shockwave, and 10m (or 8m depending on the wind strength in your area)cabrinah switchblade 2. I personally think the switchblade 2 10m is the go and you can eventually buy a smaller kite for windier days. Make sure of the year (07)as there are big differences with 06 models of the same brands. I purchased a 133 cardboard to learn on & I still enjoy riding it in flat water. Good luck, have fun

What kite did you learn with ? A c-shaped kite - or a bow kite?

If you are quite new to the sport, then i would go with a 9m BOW style kite. Forget the SS fuel as its a steeper learning curver and a very powerful kite.

crossbow/switchblade, slingshot link,best waroo, flexifoil atom...etc.
you cant really go wrong with a good brand (mind you the link was a f-uk), and a good local shop.

I found the cabrihina (switchblade/crossbow) good kites, but a bit too delicate. ie - if you dont look after them well, they dont last.
the slingshots and flexifoils are strong and long lasting kites.

i fly a slingshot link which is really nice and use friendly.
If you can get one cheap - get one. but if I could choose again i would go with flexifoil atom.

Hey Bumblebee,
Try a kite b4 you buy it but you might like to think about some little things like bar pressure Cabrina X-bows have a very heavy bar so you need Arnie arms but it is avery responsive kite, Flexifiol Atoms, GK Sonics hace very light bar presure so do PL Venom II wont coment on other kites for I havent flown them. But if your going out in a 18 -25 Knot wind range Id look at a 8 or 9 if your going out in lighter wind maybe an 11 - 13

You should contact your local kiteshops and try different types out. What one says is best for them may not be your liking. If you need further advice, PM me. Best of luck and happy kiting!
