South France: you should check: Port Leucate, around Marseilles, and near Hyeres.
West France: in Brittany (depends if you don't mind the rain)

Greece: Naxos and Paros Islands

In between, there is Croatia: the place is worth a look and not only for kitesurf.

If you can get to the French Island Corsica ,4-12 hour ferry from Marseilles or Italy (Genoa/Livorno) Head south to Bonifacio (southern tip) many great spots in that area very undeveloped ( due to corse seperatist, will blow up any hotel owned by mainland French) you can sail any wind direction by taking a 1/2 hour drive to other side of island.Windiest time is July / August but have been there in Sept too, 15 - 22Knts 3-4 days of week.
My personal favorite in Europe

Check out the possibities on Sardinia as well. I was there last Oct. and Porto Pollo is a very cool little town with some great kiting and the island of Sardinia is awesome. I flew into Olbia, rented a car and did the easy 1 hr. drive north to Porto Pollo. I stayed in a cabin in the camp ground.

Hey RK,

A few addionnal comments...

Marseille used to be my hometown. I ve never kited there but, based on the geography and the main wind direction in this area, I would select:
1- Hyeres. There is a north-south peninsula. Sand beach. Nice surroundings. In this area as well: La Ciotat, Six Four, St Cyr...
2- Marseille, at 'La pointe Rouge': famous windsurfing spot when I used to live there (now Kitesurfing spot I guess) in Marseille. I heard this is a spot for experimented kiters only (limestone coatline, boats, people, everything you may want to avoid)...
3- Corsica is a very very beautiful island, definitely worth visiting. Just avoid the bombings!?!
It s very likely to be sunny in this area in September. And whats best is that the wind usually blows the clouds away, so 'windy' means 'sunny'! This area is known to be a windy region in France.

You could also try west of Marseille (Port St Louis, Port Camargue, Leucanau). I am not familiar with these locations...

I also lived in Brittany for a few years. There is a very beautiful rugged coastline. But September is the beginning of the stormy season. It is very likely to be cold and rainy. Be aware of very strong current and tides (6 m in Brest). Brittany being a big penninsula, you could reach the right deserted spot for any wind direction within 45 min of driving from Brest.

For live information about wind in France, try:

Cheers,
Fred

A tip RK. Make sure you don't leave any valuables in your car, or have a valuable car. The Marseille region is home to the French....mob. They will steal your car in front of your eyes

PS If you get in serious trouble, I know a good English speaking lawyer in Aix.

gasman, seems there lots of infos now.
Never been to Paros and Naxos , some of my mate used to go quite a lot. Just search the web (sometimes good to check windsurf spots for kitesurf)i.e.
www.hugedomains.com/domain_profile.cfm?d=windlords&e=com

Fver, I'm from Marseilles too!!, lived at the Pointe Rouge and worked there as a sailing instructor. I don't think that many people kitesurf there..as you mention pretty small CITY beach.
West of Marseilles in the Camargue region would probably the best option. ( would recommend "Beauduc", a long sandy beach with no one around, and you could camp on the beach)

RayQ, I am with u, Corsica is pretty amazing place too!! worthwhile checking it out.

hi, guys
i don't want to get personnel with the frenchies out there . but if you are looking for wind, you have to check britanny , normandy and even more north in the city of le touquet (really north of france)...it is where you will find good strong wind .alsi in september the weather still pretty good and the beaches are empty . not like south of france where it's always packed of people.
have a good time ....
