wtf, how much carbon does a kite have in it. Boards maybe but alternatives are easy to find for kite boards.

Kites will go up via transport costs thanks to mr bush and his puppet howard.

Yeah, I'm with bondo, this sport's just way too cheap and now theres no resale on your kites. Here's hoping the cost of kites quadruples. I'm stockpiling second hand ones just in case. I'll be on a winner when the resale goes up overnight
Donations of second hand kites not worth a cent gladly accepted. I've still got one room left in the house I haven't stockpiled full of second hand inflatable garbage.

The high modulus carbon shortage is real and will not be resolved word wide within the next couple of years because all aircraft manufacturers are racing to make lighter more fuel efficient aircraft.
Carbon for boardmakers is almost unobtainable, the prices are now many times what they were a couple of years ago, and are still rising. But even if a manufacturer is prepared to pay, the product is not available, world production cannot match demand.

The other reason that prices will rise is due to the rpaidly rising oil price. All the foams, resins, pads, straps etc, used in a board are sourced from oil.

Same goes for all the cloth, lines, dacrons, bladders, foams, thread, etc that go into a kite.

Prices will be going up across all brands, or margins will be going down, but costs of production are increasing, even wages in China have recently risen 20% due to the Government rasing the minimum wage.

The change from last season in the Aussie/US $ will also make kites and boards more expensive. There could be a 10% difference on purchase cost by next summer depending upon where the dollar goes.

Definately - prices are about to skyrocket
Get in quick before prices go up.
I have 2 x 06 (9M & 13M) & 2 x 04 (11M & 15M) I am still prepared to let go at yesterdays low low prices.

Kiting will drop !

I already notice a huge drop in the number of riders.

Theres just a basic hard core crew. Many seem to have given up.

Think about this:

It may be the some of the nasty brands will have to disappear, as we will look for the ones that last more than a season!! This is good!
It will keep a sort of people out of sport: the "prospectors" will have to think twice before "committing" the money to buy equipment "just to give it a try", ending inflating the causalities statistics!! This is good!
However, in my opinion, it will slow down the young real talents, as mum's and dad's will not be so happy to spend "mega bucks" on the equipment. This is very bad!!
Most of us will have to learn to fix and maintain our equipment. This is good!! (better for the environment).
It may clean up the "landscape" of the kitesurfing industry of the "dodgy" operators (in training and sales), as with the margins getting very slim, only the real, established ones will survive (if we like it or not). This is in between good ad bad - he, he.

Snigger. One of them goes very fast and his name is Finian Maynard and he holds the world sail speed record. Dave Trewern is hot on his heels with unofficial runs that break the world speed record.

Most pole boarders just cuise along a bit. Fall in. Swim the gear around. Water start. Ride along a bit. Fall in. etc etc.
