hey guys,
i just came to perth and wounder what kind of kite would fit to my body size as my #1 kite.
i´m a beginner and i´m quite large. 190cm/96kg.

some people told me to get an 10m kite and others a 12m.
i´m really confused at the moment.
should i go and get an 11m kite???

i would be really happy to hear about you opinions...

cheers

Hi Qin, I am the same size as you and ride a 08 12m Ozone Light XC and a North Xride 141" definetly wouldn't want anything smaller then that for 1 kite.

Have fun.

I'm also the same height and weight and I disagree. I'd say nothing bigger than a 10m will be best for most summer days in Perth. I ride my 10m most days and often find myself wishing I was on an 8m. As you get beyond the inital beginner stage, you get a lot more efficient and can get away with less kite. I think if you get 12 as your only kite in Perth you'll spend a lot of days on the beach when it picks up beyond 20 knots. A 12 will feel great when you are in the water (body dragging around) but when you are spending more time "on" the water it'll be way too much. You'll end up flying with slack backlines all the time cause you are using all the depower just to stay on the water.

Consider also that the temperature is starting to really rise to the point where the wind speed will be reducing - unless you like going out on easterlies. Also unless you are planning to head to Esperance in Jan/feb. Don't get me wrong you will get strong days, but the continual spring 20-30 knots will soon be over as the temps hit the low to mid thirties and up.

Might be wrong here, but it is what I have noticed over the past 9 years anyhow. I'd go the bigger kite mate, 96kg is a decent weight to get going and you could hold down a bigger kite.

Also the bigger kite will let you get planning on lighter days for the down wind beach walks you will soon encounter.

Have fun and fly safe - (Watch where the locals launch, fly and land and stay there!).

Disagree with Eppo, January and to a slightly lesser degree Feb, are usually our windiest months. Yes, we do have our hot spells, but outside those 20-30 Knot seabreezes are common.

Perth is not a good spot for kiteboarding at all! We never get decent wind! Go over east, its much better there!

(if you stay, than your kite choice depends on what you are riding (twin tip/surfboard) and where you are going). I (80kg) find my 10m riding a twin tip being perfect most of the time.)
