I was going to go for a wakeboard while the wind is so crap and was wondering if their was any danger in using kiteboards as a wakeboard? The reason i ask is because wakeboards are generally much thicker and stronger and id rather not break/snap my kiteboard!!
I think the biggist problem is kiteboards cruise heaps faster then a wakeboard. making you think a bit more on not to over shoot the rope. if you got foot pads on it it shouldnt snap.
wakeboards are much stiffer then kiteboards and have a lot more rocker. I actually kite on a very old wakeboard that had minial rocker. I cant say I have kited on a kiteboard but have done the opposite and had negative results. Wakeboards have too much rocker to be good kiteboards (too slow). I imagine a kiteboard would be very werid as a wakeboard as it would be super fast.
Only use a kiteboard for wakeboarding if you're NOT behind a proper wakeboard boat.....wakeboards are thicker, stronger, have more rocker and hence can sustain the crashes you have.
I have used an underground as a wakeboard and it works but is no where near as comfortable or easy to ride as a dedicated wakeboard. The biggest problem is the rocker as cp suggested, being as flat as they are they tend to feel awkward behind the boat.
Definately wakeboards and bindings for behind the boat and kiteboards and footstraps for kiting IMHO.
Ive used my kiteboard to wake, and it was behind a proper wakeboat too. No harm done in using your kiteboard, though i did notice that the wakeboards are much thicker, and the kite boards do ride faster, no problems though.. but I had smooth landings all round, so if your planning on doing tough tricks... Mite re-consider with your flx!
yea. i agree with the whole rocker thing.. Theres just way too much flex thru your ankles also, so its really unstable unless your constantly holding an edge.
In saying that though, with flat water, its awesome to just crank it out heelside.
ive used a mauricio pro, LF element and wlf behind a boat... with both kite and wake boots... was fine for me... Landings are a bit harder...
kiters use kiteboards at cable parks all the time... and we land some huge raileys and things dam hard and fast.... never ridden an underground but it should be fine... if you dont own a wakeboard id take a guess and say your not gonna be bustin out any 1080's or even whirlys anytime soon... will be fiiiiine
