hey all, im doing the great ocean road from portland to torquay at xmas, is it worth taking the kite gear?? we will be camping & 4wd`ing, & heading there & back along the hume hwy(inland).
If you don't take it, there will be plenty of wind and opportunity to use your gear. If you do, you will be angry because there is no wind and no opportunity. So you're screwed either way.
I wouldn't bother mate, it's not really worth it. The victorian coast constantly blows all over the place 5 - 30. Very few launching areas, and lots of kite eating sharp reefs.
If you re willing to go to Robe, little bit further, I reckon long beach is really good. Personally I also think Robe is the best spot on the coast between Adelaide and Melb.
