i'm going to be at rottnest from the 1-5th december, just wanted to know if anyone knows what beaches are best to kite on a seabreeze?

any flat water over there? or decent wave riding spots?

i've been to rottnest countless times before but havent surfed or kited there. any advice would be appreciated :)

cheers

bickley bay sucks in a seabreeze, its a good 10 knots stronger along the shore line than further out due to the wind curving around the island.
as for a good spot... head to salmon bay for your best chance.

having said that rotto is pretty much for competent kiters only but try natural jetty in a strong Easterly if you must.

Yeah, a few of us tried out Salmon Bay in April in a SW'er, it had potential, start at the most south-easterly end of the bay (below the bus stop), but watch out for reef!

Also, the Rotto graph is taken from the top of a big hill and shows probably about 5 knots more than at Salmon Bay we figured out.

I hope to get there again sometime.

BTW its a bit of a trip by bike, and you have to time the bus right!

We kited Salmon bay last Friday on +20kn SW and it was going off!!
Nice flat water on the left corner and a long small right hander point break on the far side. But watch out for the reef on that right hander... I scratched my new board on the dried reef when got too excited surfing a hollow nice looking wave.

By the way... the spot is beautiful!

Yep Salmon Bay looks pretty good in the photos I've seen. Does anyone know about getting a boat in there?

Charts look pretty hairy guess I could go into Parker and walker over...

boat no problem - slow down and take care, often big stinkers in there
have taken in smaller boats many a time, keep to eastern end, skirt around western side of the reef on that side of the reef
only issue if bigger swell 2.5+ bommie may break
good anchorage close in on eastern side, sandy bottom out of the wind
dont lauch kites too close to where stairs are, lots of holes from the headland, just walk a bit further down the beach
i agree wind readings are a hoax, weather station is high up 5-10kn higher reading than beach level
