I'd be careful at that weight - only about 9 years old?

I think there are a few 1.5-2.0m trainer kites around, and you can definitely get good deals on ~4m kites but take it slow - maybe even get him started on a 2-line buzz kite that doesn't load up as much as a trainer. I'm sure there's IKO qualified guys on here that would have some good ideas on how to get started.

kitting as defined in the urban dictionary

A word for a guy who comes off gay, just to get close to girls and then gets in their pants by seducing them. When accomplished, acts like nothing happened and moves on to the next girl leaving the girl think hes a jerkoff.

Thats some 9 year old son you must have

He/she must have been in a rush while typing it. Either that or just needs to turn on the spell-checker.

That wouldn't help the incorrect grammar - 'too' or 'suface'

I have an 8 year old grom and he is flying a B2 Slingshot trainer kite. He weighs about 27 kgs and he can hold it till around 15 knots and then i have to hold on to him. I have put a wrist safety leash on it and attached it to the centre of the bar. So if he lets go it eventually crashes to the ground without looping to many times. He is not on the water yet but will probably introduce him to that this summer. Cabrinha brought out a Switchblade 3 4m which would be suitable. Onboard at Glenelg in Sth Oz still have a new one forsale.

Good luck teaching your grom, cheers

Contact Jon or Rhys at Kitepower Redcliffe, Rhy's youngest brother started very young, I think he was 11/12 and he was a small build, they sorted gear for him and will know how to help you.

There are no trainer kites that have variable depower, but there are excellent trainer kites like the Ozone ImpIII trainer that have a total depower system, that also works as a handy kite relaunch system as well. They make a 1.5M size which would be perfect for your son.
Ozone, Cabrinha are two brands we stock in sub 5M sizes, Ozone have a 3M Light XC (in stock) and Cab make 4M Switchblades (in stock), getting the Ozone 3M Light would also double a trainer kite provided he flies it in the shallow water and not on the sand and of course both will require a harness, whereas a trainer kite does not require a harness.
I would recommend getting him and ImpIII trainer kite and get him flying that he will be super impressed with it if you help him out till he has the hang of it. Let him spend quite a bit of time learning essential kite control skills with that kite before putting him on the water.

Hi mate,
we have recently taught heaps of groms from 30-40kgs. A 6m Best Guroo or 6m Cabrinha Switchblade work very good for the groms. Dakine makes a kids harness that will fit him.
Dont take him out in more than 16knts before he is up riding!
I wldnt worry about trainer kite for him.
Where in Qld are you located?

cheers
