i have been going up north(small town about 100klm) to kite for a while now but am beginging to have problems with the person who hires wind surfing epquipment on the beach.it has started last year as more and more kiters turned up on his turf and he has personallly taken offense it seems.i have been verbally abused and have seem him do the same to others.have seem him punch someone who was doing wrong in his eyes..has any one else had these troubles as i do not believe i am the cause of all this grief..
he is willing to profit from the hire of kiting epquipment but personally hates us.maybe explains the type of person am dealing with..
there is no kiting activities allowed in the park anymore and he has taken it upon himself to police this but i do not think shouting "piss off piss off"is the best way to do this but each to their own i say..
i wrote this to let you know what is happening and warn you that if for some reason you are being waved at and shouted from the beach our community policman is at work..and if you happen to be a council member for the shire of gin gin please take at look at the goings on down the beach.i know he is there to help the tourists and bring money into the community but maybe this is not the best way to go about it..

I was recently in WA on holidays and got to Lancelin to see a kitesurfing prohibited sign posted in the rigging park. I even took a photo of it because I thought how stupid that was, there is nothing on the sign to say its official- i.e it does not say by order of the council or what the penalty is etc. I asked Werner where to rig etc and for someone who you'd think would welcome tourists he was really rude and told us to go down the little track off to the side of the park to the "carpark". I didn't think someone would bull**** me and ended up getting stuck in the sand from this ****ers advice as he could see we were in a campervan. He thinks he owns the joint and even the lady at the caravan park told us how much of a tosser he is. Werner your a tosser and should take a good long walk in the house of mirrors, more tourists mean more business for everyone you idiot, so take that stick outta your ass and start building harmony not division. Of course your welcome to go back to Germany if you dont like the fact that Aussies get on regardless of what sport they are into you goose!

Not what I was hoping to hear...
I'm heading up to Lancelin for the first time, where should I set up/kite? How do I avoid all the trouble? Especially as I think it will be busy with all the schoolies starting to head up there.

Cheers brooksy

The Back Beach at Lancelin is a great spot to kite when the seabreeze in in and strong.

However until it gets strong you will find surfers/swmimmers/dogs and children in the water there.

But IMHO it's a bit dozy to kite there when the wind is light.

Just wait until it goes over 20 kts and everyone leaves. Or get up or down the beach a few K's.

Maybe the folks there on Saturday am were Euro's or something - or just desperate to kite in the first bit of breeze. But there was one guy plowing up and down about 5 m from the shore with his kite low over the beach.

If people keep kiting with swimmers/surfers in the water it'll be all over. There's already been letters of complaint to the local community news. Once the council gets complaints they are bound to act. Then it's bye-bye lano for all of us.

Couldn't we all pitch in and get someone to put a hit on Werner......spike his bratwurst or something

I saw him punch somebody last year too.....Either it was the same day or he does it often.

I say if he approaches you and his face is red and temples bulging then hit the fat pr#@k first.

As I understand it, the only problem is with people rigging up their kites on the grass in front of where Werner hires out various bits of gear. The sign was I think put in by the council who are concerned with little kiddies etc and kite lines, as some of the Euros have done silly things there in the past.

The best place is to walk past Werner to the beach, then turn left and walk about 100m and rig up on the beach for problem-free kiting. Failing that, there is back beach (further around to the left) and also the north point as mentioned earlier. There's never really anyone there, and personally I think its a great place to go and play.

There's so much space in this country it's a pity you see stuff like lancelin during the summer. I guess last weekend was the last time I go there. Packed. Even the poleboarders were fighting between themselves for the waves, dropping on each other.

Have to do some google earth to find other wave spots not to far. Any suggestions?

Thanks quixand - sounds like you just stay away from Werner, and there are no restrictions - just common sense. And besides who wants to fight with everyone else for room - I'll be finding my space anyway.

i came to that exact same conclusion back in my pole boarding days of the late 80's early 90's. most of the blowins have no idea of wave etiquette [}:)]

Look at www.gingin.wa.gov.au/ for more info - FLUMP; the Lancelin foreshore plan.

Kiting to be limited to northern beach and Back beach - yet to be enforced; with the number of beginner kiters up there already only a matter of time.

You forgot to mention that it is 60km on one tack.

Now that is what I call a sore back leg.
