anyone know of details for landboarding?
what size foil do you use normally? can u use trainer kites or do you need to go up to like 4 or 5m to get doing on say grass in big parks?
what sort of wind do you need? is it a light wind alternative?
i am interested but know no-one in wa that does it.

You don't need a kite with lines to get you going, all you need is a kitewing. You'll be cranking without the hassel of watching out for trees poles etc...call me you can get your self a Kitewing if you wish? 0438268952 [email protected]
You can even use the KW when there's no wind and still get airtime!

what board are you using. I got a dirt surfer recently, and am waiting til a cheap 2nd hand foil comes up round the 3-5m mark.
Kitewings look awesome, but they are over 1000.....too much for me.
2nd hand foil is round about 200-400 ish

The 4.8m is $1500+, 5.5m $1600+ it is a bit of a rich boys toy, but what a toy! I can sort Mr Force on a 2m or 4m foil or evan an 8.5m! You should be able to hold down a 4.5m between 10 to 25 knots on a dirtsurfer/buggy/mountain board/off road blades. Give me an email and I'll sort ya mate.
i'll be heading down to the snow with all the gear for the show Totally Wild, all are welcome, it's on the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th at Thredbo.

Go to www.extreme-kites.com

or www.flexifoil.com/community/forums/

10m depowerable foil is the ultimate one kite to landboard.
(frenzy, sabre, flysurfer)

5m foil (like a flexifoil blade) is also a great alternative. (if you prefer handles)

You can use trainer kites, but you probably won't be getting any air.

If you can fly the kite comfortably you can landboard.

This is definitely a light wind alternative.

This is an awesome sport, but no one is doing it.

Hey Force, I fly a 4m ozone samurai kite for landboarding and it's got more than enough grunt and power than I can handle at times......I weigh 64 kilos. It's also on a bar and lines pully system. I bought it new but am sure you can get something similar secondhand.

Happy Hunting!

Hi Force,

The reason there's not many landboarders in WA (so i hear) is that there's not a whole load of wide beaches (hard sand) with more or less onshore winds; but that doesn't mean there's not any good parks to do it. My favourite two landboarding spots are parks - makes an excellent light-wind alternative to kiteboarding; especially when it's cold.

Unless you want it for training though, don't get a 2-line foil - and not off eBay unless it's something second hand. You want something with power, not a toy shop special. A 4m Ozone Samurai is an awesome kite, but there's also some slightly cheaper ones out now, like one called the Fury, by Ozone.

The MBS Razor was my first board, and it's great, except quite an old model now... but for kiting, most boards will be ok.

Certainly check the Flexifoil forums for info; and extreme-kites.

All the best,
Goshen Watts

I take my buggy down to the local parks when it's lite enough in WA... awesome alternative...

I either use a small nemesis, yarga on a pully bar or old 6m windtools foil...

Wouldnt mind giving a mountain board a go... any takers interested in a deal ?

Go the KGB. (kite ground boarding).

DON`T get a foil less than 3-4M as they are to fast through the wind window, you end up just getting tugged and not powered. If your looking for light wind performance ie. not enough wind to kitesurf yet, then I`d reccomend at least 5-6m of kite.

Any smallish tube kite will serve as your high wind water kite and lower wind land kite and it may well be easy to get at a good price OR the alternative that I`m considering is the new "speed" from flysufer, again because it`s multi-functional, for me I`m looking at snow, land and water use with just one kite!

*** poor relative- hows your dirtsurfer goin`? Which one did you get?

Yes, Dogrocks is an awesome place for landboarding. The wind in that clip (the last one) wouldn't have been over about 14-16 knots. The kite in most vids was a 4.9m foil - but still very powered up for the wind. In the bottom vid, you can see me riding the old MBS Razor. When on the beach however, you can cruise around with even a 3m foil; but a larger size would be better if you'll be using in lightwinds. A 3m foil will be powered up in 15 knots, and with a 4.5m you should be cruising from anything above 8 knots. Let us know how you get on.
