gday,

I was just wondering if I could get some feed back on some good leashes that can be setup as a suicide leash.

I am currently using a leash from a 5 line kite...so it is much shorter and has a clip that can detach easily (works in the reverse fashion of scissors or pliers). I also have it set up as a suicide leash for trying handle passes. It wwent horribly wrong today and came off (due to the clip sitting on an angle and opening). This pretty much resulted in the kite blowing about 300m offshore at woodies...a long swim.
Are there any leashes that are good setup as a suicide leash?? Or are there any other setups that can be used??
A HUGE THANK YOU to thersa for helping me out today!

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated
cheers
dan

Hey Dan,

When I make a suicide I make sure that every piece of the system is rated to at least 300kg. The clip you are talking about is like the one slingshot use on their safety leash right? I have seen many of them brake. I would reccomend a snap hook (caribener).

Your suicide has to be bombproof!

Let me know if you want any other specific info like part numbers or photos.

Dave.

be careful with the carabina method dan, as you have no way of quick releasing from this method when things go wrong. I've been using this type for while and so far no problem however I have had some interesting drags up the beach at woodies south bay...

If somthing was to go wrong you have to over come the power of the kite via the leash as you fumble to open and release the carabina...

I agree they are cheap, strong and easy method to use, but very dangerous. I am searching for another method...

If you've never dropped your kite, your not trying hard enough !
To hear your knee go POP ruins a kite trip !
Sucide leash's and onshore conditions are a interesting combination !
Broken ribs SUCK !

not entirely sure if this is original or not...
I was thinking that you could have a system with 2 leashes and a 'quick release chicken loop' that has a swivel on it (gaastra, wipika etc). One is a short leash from the leash line to the swivel and the second leash acting as a suicide leash. This way it still works as a suicide leash but if you are in dire need of depowering the kite, you can pull the quick release and the kite will depower as per usual. The swivel benefits the rider because the short leash will never twist around the chicen loop and cause trouble. The only disadvantage would be having to reach to the chicken loop to disengage the quick release. However, if the kite luffs from a 'stuffup', you would easily have enough time to reach the quick release. Note also that the suicide leash should only be as long as you require...any excess would mean a longer time to reach the safety release.
Any thoughts??

The leash you are talking about is just like an Airush spinning system with a suicide. This system works well however you have to be able to reach the release. Wouldn't it be nice if someone made a cable actuated release like the 3 ring system on a skydivers rig so you could deploy the safety from the end of your suicide!

I have no release on my suicide because I feel that if I cant flag it I don't want to let it go and make it possibly someone elses problem. committed!.

dan, i have this setup on my suicide system, works well in that i can still spin the bar, if i drop it i can get it back and i can still depower the kite with the normal safety release. the only problem i find is that it can be a long climb to get to the release if things are going wrong,
