i was out yesterday and being kinda new to the sport havent flown my 15m much, anyway after using my other kite thats setup right i realised that the middle lines need to be shortened,

incase anyone suggests it i had used the tightest setting on the middle line pigtails and the longest on the outside and this helped but my middle lines still need to be a little tighter.

the kites an 05 slingy fuel, can i unscrew the cleat on the middle lines and just move it to better spot or will the rope be stuffed where the screws went in..? the other option is to get longer pigtails for the outside lines..? My bar is a fair way away from my body at present so the middle line fix seems the best to me as it will fix that also.

just after some info from someone who has done this before?

cheers!

Are you finding that the tips are flaring out?

Its unlike SS lines to strech - Ive had a few SS bars/lines used for long periods of time with no problems. Generally the fuel setup is not too long so unless you're a tiddler the bar should be at a comfortable reach.

Are you finding that this is the case when riding in light wind? i.e. the kite depower line all the way out and the bar pulled right in? Its a fiarly classic mistake to power the kite right up in realy light wind. If so, you may find you need to depower the kite slightly but if theres not enough wind to ride.... have a beer!

Make some short leaders and attach them to the end of your lines.

Failing that, you could cut & re-sleeve the offending lines...

ok,

GalahOnTheBay - so leaders are the common fix? does that mean you would not recommend moving the cleat? This is a brand new bar and lines so does that effect anything? Apart from it not being stretched..

Oakie - In the wind i was flying this kite it was quite light, fully powered with the depower line out. When i pulled the depower on and let the bar out the back lines were still tight and the kite looked and felt like it was still too powered, my other kites back lines go a lot looser when the bar is let out, it was also very powered to walk with.. this is why i am lengthening the inner lines.

I'm still looking at moving the cleat as this will fix my prob and get the bar that bit closer.. anyone seen this done before, is it forbidden for any reason or a sensible idea?

Okeydokey - in that case what you said sounds right and yes the front lins need shortening. You can change the back pigtails a'la Galah, but I wouldnt recommend cuting and sleeving the front lines - thats a recipe for disaster.

Changing the cleat position is possible, but it wont make a huge amount of difference - I tried this a quite while ago and if I remember correctly the cleat is located at the end of a doubled up (one inside the other) section of chicken line. Repositioning the cleat is easy, but unless you cut back the inner rope it wont fit into the cleat, so you wont actually get much more depower. I hope that makes sense, its pretty hard to explain without photos and diagrams. Give it a try, but I think your best bet is longer piggies for the back lines. Let me know how you get on.
