often when i drop the bar and go to grab the chicken loop i activate the quick release by mistake. because of the way it faces it is really easy to do.
has anyone modified their safety system to overcome this? does anyone else even have this problem?
i reckon i will just duct tape it shut and rely on the leash QR

You can always buy a new chicken loop with the safety and centreline on it. North, Naish, and Cab. are all "push away" safeties so they don't release when you're trying to get back in the chicken loop. I've seen the replacements for all of the above at the local kite shop.

Think replacing the chicken loop and safety would be a better idea than duck taping up your current, but thats just me

The leash QR is the most dodgy of all the slingy QR's, always comes undone, tape it shut.

Take the time to grab the loop not the red quick release knob it's not that hard to get it right. I pulled it a couple of times when it firts came out after I chilled a little found it to be fine, just took a little getting used to.. But I have seen one guy put a screw in it.

Rather than a screw I know of some SS riders that have placed a cable tie through the stainless release and around the plastic to stop it releasing.

It's a safety system--it's supposed to release. You're asking for trouble for yourself and possibly others if you deactivate it. Not a good idea. I've used it for hundreds of hours and had no problems with it and it works when it's supposed to work. It's like anything else -- you just get your head around it and use it the way it's designed to be used and you get used to it. It's probably the most reliable and solid quick release of all the brands I've seen. Deactivating it with duct tape,a screw or a cable tie is IMHO dangerous and irresponsible.

Some valuable food for thought here on what type of clips we should be using & where - for sure.
But, the photo on the site above shows a leash clip catching a front line at the common point of attachment. I cannot see anyway that this could create a control problem. Especially the death spiral (aka corkscrew) it is claimed to have caused in this case
Am I missing something here

& while Im here .........
IMHO disarming a quick release as described here is total lunacy.
Unless you have an approved standard, alternative quick release built into your set-up then just dont do it. Apart from your own personal risk you may well find; given that worst case scenario; that you will void all insurance cover and be left open to personally settling any claim for damage or injury you cause even if disabling your QR may not have directly contributed to the calamity.
Sort of like voiding your insurance if you DUI.
IMO (strongest possible) if you dont like it change it for one you do like.
Personally I reckon the sure-fire quick release harness hook is THE BEST harness safety development in kiting ever. If you havent seen one go take a look - so simple, so effective, can be fitted to any harness & so easy to reload if necessary.

Safety leash is attached to the front line. If the clip catches back line as well, I assume there could be some sort of a problem.
