Hi!

I'm looking for boards with a lot of flex. The Underground FLX is pretty cool! What are the alternatives....?

Cheers!

I ride the underground 122 it's a really good board, great pop for jumps, really good flex for snappy turns but the only downfall is that when the wind is light, like under 12 knots its hard to get up & going. You need something a bit stiffer for lighter winds. I have a slingshot sx132 also and if i have trouble getting going with the Underground 122 in lighter winds i use this board and i have no probs. I havent tried the 132 underground yet so i don't know if i could use that in lighter winds. I'd like to compare it with the slingshot as the slingshot is a stiffer board. Anyway imo i give the Underground 122 an 8 out of 10, but thats just me.

Sly,

The Ocean Rodeo Outlaw 142cm is super flexi. Very thin and snow board style, with very little volume. Great for riding powered up and loading for boosts, need to be powered up though. The flex absorbs most chop and shock for a really smooth ride.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Addiction (125, 130 and 135cm). They're locally made, great construction, great flex. Plus they're cheap! $795

Just about to mention the ADDICTION boards - we tried a proto, sent courtesy of the gents from WA and it was a top board. Loads of FLEX.

If you have a few boards get one of those, your new secret weapon.

GOTTA ASK THE QUESTION, WHY ARE PEOPLE LOOKING FOR FLEX IN BOARDS THESE DAYS?
ORIGINALLY PEOPLE WERE USING PLY BOARDS BUT THE FLEX OF THEM DISTORTED THE SHAPE SO YOU DIDNT GET A LOT OUT OF THEM.
MOST BOARDS WERE MADE STIFF SO THEY HOLD SHAPE.
THESE DAYS PEOPLE ARE ASKING FOR A FLEXI BOARD.
IS IT SO THAT WHEN IT IS CHOPPY IT FLEXES SO U DONT HURT UR KNEES/JOINTS? IF IT DOES FLEX THEN DOES IT LOSE SHAPE AND CREATE DRAG IN THE WATER SLOWING YOU DOWN?
JUST ALL QUESTIONS.
I HAVENT TRIED A FLEXIBLE BOARD TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN RIDING.

Hi Caution
Yes the boards flex so you don't get the jarring ride but at the same time this helps to keep the rail in the water much like a shocker on a car rather than bouncing and skipping.
Yes the boards do change shape create drag and slow you down, but this happens when you load them up and edge hard usually when you are trying to slow down or are overpowered. When you are riding fast you don't edge hard the board is riding a lot flatter so it holds it shape.
Try one out

Cheers
Pete

just my 2 cents, I've just got a new addiction, its got good flex, super lightweight, and a great price.

Flex is good for riding in chop, softening hard landings, giving more pop and response on wake-styled jumps, and no worries about the board losing shape or distorting, the construction nowadays means the board always finds its original shape. Enjoy!!
