I am about 90kg and can boast and hold a decent edge. Thing is i have a 14, 12 and 10m kite. I have only recently worked out how to set my kite right- it is fully powered with bar out and i am rapped with how much easier it has made riding. I can now see how to depower the 14 so it still rides well- now that i have the bar set right. If i use the inside attachment points on the 14m kite what sort of high wind should i able to ride it in.
Should i be able to ride it fully depowered in say 20-25? If so should i sell the 12 and just keep the 14 and 10? They are liquid force spectrum 2' the 10 is a spectrum 1. Or maybe sell the 14 and get bigger kite?- i really like the 14 but!
Would really apreciate some advice. I think the keeping the 12 is sort left over from my newbe days. I have not tried the 14 with high wind settings.
sell 12
sell 14 get another kite
just a bit unsure and with the sort of wind we have been getting it will be ages before i can test the 14 in higher winds.
thanks

G'day Richo
By set your kite right, do you mean that all 4 lines are equal when the bar is near or on the trim strap (and the trime strap is out too)?

Its a common way to set up a bar, but does not suit everyone.
The attachment points change the way the kite steers (effort to steer and the rate of turn for that effort) and the amount of bar movement to get the same depower.
You won't get any real range improvement by using different attachment points, the kite will still be 14 Sq M.

My advice would be to sell the 12 and get a bigger kite like a 17 or 18 for light winds, because thats what suits your quiver and you really like your 14M.

Another option would be to sell the 10 and 14 and get an 8 or 9 and then a 15 or 16, or even a 17.

If you stick to Spectrum 2 kites then all the numbers will be even!

Hope that helps.

Another trick to get some excellent wind range is to look into a bigger board. I'm talking 43 - 47 cm wide (for your weight)with a good efficient rocker line.

Team this up with an 18 - 16 m kite and you will get RIDICULOUS bottom end. I ride a 47cm wide board (Airush exile) with a 12m kite and am going earlier than guys on 16m set ups.(i weigh 87 kgs) If i used a 16 the bottom end would be ridiculous ! The extra planing area makes a HUGE difference. Once you get used to the balance of a larger board there isnt much you cant do - and in surf they are actually BETTER !

You may even find you are riding the big board with a small kite in lighter winds and will be getting ridiculous efficiency which will transalate into speed and insane upwind performance !i have been out kiting on a 15m in about 16 knots of wind and have had felic pivec go flying past me on a 4m kite (on a pulley bar)- now theres a guy who can dial into his kites. he's a small guy who flies small kites and just fangs around at about twice the speed everyone else is riding at.

The moral of the story is that with efficient kite / board combos and dynamic flying technique ALOT more can be achieved than you would believe !
