Great to here that you have had some lessons it will make things a lot more enjoyable and safer . Firstly i think you should not go and buy a new kite ,what a waste of money .you should think of this sport just like any other .would you go and spend a couple of thousand on a set of golf clubs after only three lessons i think not . Buy a second hand kite maybe ex demo . you are going to crash it a lot in your first season so spending that kind of money on something that may only last a season is crazy .i would go for the Cab CO2 2004 these are great kites i have two of them and the recon system works well and you do not need the 5 line which when starting is just another thing to worry about . Cabs are pricy new but are cheap second hand i got a new 2004 Cab CO2 14m for $1000 2 weeks ago .so anything around this price would be good .that a saving of over a $1000 .
with the other kite you mentioned i believe that they are a higher aspect kite and would be harder to learn on the matrix is a great kite and has a big wind range and the SS fuel would have to be one of the best kites on the market at the moment ,just look at how many people use them ,but the 13m is a big 13m from what i have herd more like a 14m .
i do not know what the wind is like in cairns so can not comment on kite size .
Also the season is half over so if you buy a new kite now you will be really pissed in two months when they drop the price and you can get it for a third of what you paid .
anyway this is just my 2 cents .

No worries .Nick
Always willing to help out a fellow kitesurfer ,and get out of working for a few minute.
check out the forsales in the east coast section there is 2 CAB CO2 14m for sale . another great thing about Cab's is that i think the bladders are the cheapest to replace of all the kites around $160 but i could be wrong on this .
also if you buy a board from a shop ask if they have an exchange policy like some shops in perth because you will grow out of your board in a very short time . what seems small to you now will be massive to you in a month or two but if you buy a small board now you will find it harder to learn on.

Hey Nicko,

I agree with Jags - go second hand in your first season, unless you believe you have the skill to handle new kites with out killing them.

I also think you should keep it simple...Stick with four lines, a re-ride safety leash and no gimmicks. Learn the fundamentals well and you will have a solid knowledge base from which to base your decisions in the future.

Repairs and replacement parts are generally easy to get on products made within the last 2 years.

Bladders are piss easy to repair if you have the right tools - Same as kiting is easy if you have the right support.

Check out www.kitepower.com.au you'll get the full round up on everything you need and the service to back it all up.

hey go the 2nd hand gear or older mdl equipment like early 2004 stuff.

today i got my first set up, consisting of 2004 Cabrinha Co2 with Recon Bar (used about 4 times, in perfect condition), i got a superseded board, looks about 1 year old, its a 152cm Naish T52 (???) and its brand new, never used, just old mdl, then i got a new seat harness and pump and bag, and all for a good price (dont wanna disclose price as the employee might get shot by the boss )
but lets just say that it was well under $2k for equipment that's in perfect condition, if not new.

go 2nd hand for ya 1st set up, as there's such a HUGE saving, and maybe try older mdl stuff as well, as this time of year, 2004 equipment is very cheap!

good hunting (for gear)
