1) Learn to swim. This is very important because if you can't swim, you can't save yourself.
2) Get some lessons when you can swim over 100m in the ocean.

1) Go to a kite shop and buy an instruction DVD (or get it in any other way you know )
2) Start swimming every day while watching the DVD over and over again.
3) Buy a trainer kite (1m) and practice @ your local park or beach (Do not practice close to other beach users)
4) Now you are ready to start your course with an instructor.
5) After you passed your course its time to buy a 2nd hand kite, board and a new harness (I suggest helmet and vest as well but most people hate me for that)
6) You are addicted for the rest of your life.

Being 'strong' is often quite a disadvantage to swimming because your lack of technique, combined with your big muscles will make you tired really quickly!

There are no lifeguards at 99% of places where you kitesurf, so be careful.

My best mate and I used to pull people 3 times as muscly as us out of the surf when we were 14. Not a good feeling for them...especially because my mate is a girl!

i agree with dutchy, im a fairly bulky sized person n until i got some half decent technique down i was **** at swimming too. most instructors have a pre requisite that you hve to be able to swim 200m, though they never really test to see if u can it is a good idea for your safety to jst cruise down to the beach n swim along the coast and get that sorted.

then go to a kite shop and find out who does lessons around there and they can help you out. google can find shops or if u go into the sponsor/ advertising section here they will have some listed.

make sure you get those mates of yours into it too, its wicked learning with a bunch of people on your level

yep, and with that mountain board you won't ever need to swim or fight off sharks, so many sharks.

i'm sure alex will teach you how to crash into concrete structures safely too. enjoy! (troll)

ay should be spelt hay
saven should be spelt saben

If you're going to insult Australians by typing in spanish then you can at least have the decency to type proper Spanish. Do you even speak spanish?

no I can't write spanish but I can speak it, not to good with language. I was only born there but do have very a spanish family

I can fly a kite!

love to meet more spanish kiters they are so much fun and open minded, and the girls are so beautifull !!

Its not an insult if it's true!! aussies are slow to pick things up.
How many new sports am I trying to introduce to Australia? heaps !! yet no Adult aussie will have a go.

how small is kitesurfing in sydney?? and most kiters are from overseas.

All my kitesports lesson have been to tourists

But saying that, the young aussie kids 7 to 12 are fantastic so open minded and excited. Love working with them, I going to teach about 400 kids kitesports this season. So get ready to see more kids with foils on our beaches..

who is David Bisbal ??

No. I do not drive a Pajero. funny though that it took so long for aussies to realize what that name ment in spanish.

Be at Cronulla if anyone wants to say Hi, going to do some sandboarding with kites got about 5 kids to play with.
