Video of the north rhino 07 in action in egypt for anyone interested.

40 meg download.

kiteforum.com/viewforum.php?f=200/index.php?option=com_videos&task=download&id=968&Itemid=31

If anyone has ridden one I would like to hear your experiences. Originally was going to get a 9 meter rebel but told by dealer it doesn't have the low end like my current 9 meter kite has and what the rhino will have.

hi
rode the rhino yesterday and felt at home on it straight away, had heaps of grunt i rode a 14 and the 10 and both were very nice on the bar.
As people have said before its a rebal on steroids and now i can see why.
Relaunch was easy pull out side line came straight up.

i will post a review soon.
thanks paul.j

Got to try the 14m Rhino 07 a few days ago -in really dodgy conditions-.
When I got on the water, everybody was doing the walk of shame and I was quite amazed to find myself going upwind like a rocket: this baby is a bloody truck!
It was quite a shock at the start, after having flown the forgiving Rebel for the past months, to get back to such a grunty and powerful kite!
I found myself loosing my edge in no time, and, remembering a post read recently, I need to mention this: the Rhino 07 is NOT a beginner's kite!
But I must confess that it felt great to fly a kite "with temper" again, and the jumps are awesome! The lift is huge (the “Rebel on steroids” thing!) and the hang time is quite unbelievable (check a good 100m downwind from you before throwing a jump!). When most of kites take you up like a rocket and let you down like a stone, the Rhino 07 has that floaty effect on the way down that I found really enjoyable. Can't wait to start variations on my boards off, now that I have the right tool…
(And yes, JB, I know "boards off are so 2001"... And I don't care! :-P )
It definitely has a lot of depower, but I couldn't really appreciate it as I was on the wrong kite size: the 14m, even on light/unsteady wind, was too big for me (I was holding on it fine, but I would have been a lot more comfortable on smaller size).
I'd advise anyone thinking of purchasing one not to oversize their sail: I reckon this kite generates enough power to reduce a good 2m2 in your usual size selection... To be verified: I need to have a go with the 10m to confirm this impression. Paul, what's your feeling about it?
I was pleased to find the same tolerance to gusts as the Rebel (Gusty as hell you said??? A gust? where?). Very stable and still very forgiving with unsteady wind.
It doesn't turn quite as fast as the Rebel but still faster than the previous Rhino versions, the bar feeling is nice, all together, loved it (in spite of the shocking conditions).
Can't wait to have a go with the 10m, as I think the size will suit me heaps better (and according to how much that 14m pulled me, I think the 10m might get me planing as early as a 12m usually would...).
Definitely the kite to go for:
- if you're a big -experienced- guy: this kite will get you out of the water and planing if other kites don't.
- if you love big air (old school dorks like me, who still think big air is the most delightful thing ever, will fall in love with it)
- if you like very powerful riding and want a kite with a lot of personality.

Em, I would like to politely point out that you forgot to mention that you work for the importers of North kites!

So what?
Does that make I can't appreciate a kite's performance?
Cwamit asked about a feedback on the Rhino, I answered him...
If you want a review on the swicthblade II, I can make one too but that wasn't the question asked.
The fact that I'm employed by the importer doesn't affect my appreciation of any kite of any brand. An opinion is always personal any way, I gave mine. Take it, leave it...
Yes, because I work for North, I got the chance to try the Rhino first which is great.
If I didn't like the kite, I wouldn't have bothered answering the post.

Cant wait to try a new Rhino am on Rebels at the moment and very happy with their performance but as you say Em would be nice to feel a kite with temper again.

Of course not. However,a North rider is obviously going to say good things about North kites.

Just like your work associate that rides Naish Kites talks them up on the Forums.

I missed the part about replying to cwamit's question.

Good review anyway.

That video is amazing!

I'm a newbie when it comes to jumping. One jump I noticed in the video (at 2:08) the guy does a kite loop on his descent. Is that normal?

should i put that i'm sponsered of north aswell, the point is the kite rocks and is what i am going to ride from now on and if i don't like it i wont ride it.

everybody that rode them today at the SEQKA event loved them not one bad report and at the end of the day if the kite sux then when people test them it gets found out pretty quick and if they are good then they will sell themself's.

It's so good to ride a kite that every time you go out it just keeps getting better and better.
If you want to have a go on one just let me know and i'll fix you up

Cheers Em and Angi for your thoughts and looking forward to Paul’s review.

Looking at the kite in the video it looks like a fairly flat kite... would that be right description or is it more a c hybrid in your opinion (def doesn’t look anything like a Vegas). Does it have power in the turn even though it’s slower than a rebel or does it tend to turn on its axis? Going off the video it seems to twist as it turns so I am not sure of either.

I know its "best to try it yourself" but unfortunately the north dealer will be an 8 hour drive away to when the rhino will be in the shop. I hope to try out the rebel next week to least get an idea on these 5th line depower kites after coming off a easy ride bow.

How does the rhino handle it’s depower... fall out of sky kind of depower or does it just sit where it's placed with little pull? Do you think it would make a good wave ridding kite ie. wont backstall like a c kite when going down the line.

Asmdsr - if you like that video then look for the rebel_1st_cut one in Egypt... that’s my all time fav kite video - the dude looks to be having so much fun in it (ok given its cut and edited)

This thread should probably be moved to the review section huh!

Em... since your a north representative is there anything *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge* I could do for you to deliver me a 9 meter rhino. (and i dont mean pump up your kite haha) and by the way - old school tricks rock!

IMO, yes, anyone who posts opinion's/review's ect should make it known if they are involved/associated with a brand ect. From what you've said about the Rhino 07, if I didn't have up to date quiver, I'd be looking to demo one.

Almost all kites are good kites ..comes down to rider I thunk. Notice the movie ain't so much about the kite...they all look the same to me these days.

Right on gruezi,

Slight differences in configuration and construction accross all brands, apart from that there has been no major design breakthroughs since late 05.

All reviews sound the same to me.

I want to hear about new ideas from the inventors - not the manufactures (unless there the same person).

Very cool video, the slow backloops with a high kiteloop exit are a cool looking trick.

I agree with the gruzitski chap.

If you notice on one part of the vid he loops and drops the kite. as it starts to go into possibly a wierd bow like drama the camera quickly pans away.

Would have found the preceeding minutes far more interesting than any double back roll unhooked handle pass f12387 gooby hooby any day.

any pro makes any kite look good.

  • Rhino 14m

  • 107kg 43yr old

  • 17-23knots (gusts to 28?)

  • Dolls Point - mega super choppy with outgoing tide

  • Towra(flat water)

  • Intermediate rider

  • 1st major boost

  • 1st toeside run (accidental)

  • LOVED IT

  • BOUGHT IT

So I was lucky enough to score the demo Rhino 14 from Em at Windsurf n Snow at Long Reef.

First outing 5pm - 7:30pm at Dolls point. I have only started riding this season and only just learning to jump. Recently with all the wind at Botany I have been overpowered with my 06 Naish Shockwave 16m kite.

Was easily able to control the Rhino 14. It seems in my limited experience a well behaved kite that does what you tell it to do...

First out and back run, I wound up well up wind (the outgoing tide helped) and made it to the found to Towra Island almost in a single tack (would have made it if it had not been low tide)

On the flat water I was just blasting back on forth and experimenting with my enexperinced jumping. One small jump I landed and wound up going very fast downwind. Well I kept turning and low and behold I'm screaming off on the other tack toe-side - first time ever .

I also now know what a BOOST is. This thing launched me skyward at once stage like a lunar park ride. Scared the bejesus out of me! Floated down and crashed in a foot of water!. Of course I'm going to try it again.

On the way back through the mega chop just let the kite ride high and cruised back downwind with minimal effort.

So I have bought the kite from Em (they mentioned that a 12m would be a better demo kite)

My company "Angry Koala"ak.com.au is going to sponsor me

Does anybody know someone that can produce a stick on logo?

Would it affect the kite?

Has anyone used spinnaker tape for logos?

Just recovering from a dog bite but hope to be on the water next week.

If you see a White Rhino 14m with Blue ribs, and old grey haired guy, and a lovely pink 135 07 Nobile 555 say hello and I'll let you take it for a run and you can show me what this kite is really capable of...

BTW the Nobile 555 I find much smoother and easier to hold an edge than the Underground 07 flx 142 (lost at Narrabeen)

So I'm well and truly hooked on this kite surfing (ex windsurfing guy)
