it seems that every time we get an easterly or Se wind in Newcastle a couple of KM inland it is 17-21 kts (williamtown all arvo just inland from the coast, plus my place blowing all day similar distance in newcastle)it is 9-10 kts on the coast .WTF .i'm over it !!!
Woy woy woy!!!

I thought i knew the weather but this ones got me .Any gurus out there with an explaination of what is going on??

Cheers

It's been many years since I was in Newcastle but, isn't there a rather steep increase in the land elevation just in from the coast?
This being the case, you have lessened the available volume for the airflow, increased the pressure, and you now have a squirt effect, like your finger on the end of a garden hose... added to this there would be thermal increases as the cooler air from the sea warmed over the land, warm air rises and it's already travelling, so a vectoral addition would result in more windspeed up the slope.

It could also just be that the weather station is at a higher altitude and hence in a higher airstream.

It could aslo be that I shouldn't have taken so many drugs in my youth and hence waste my time thinking about these kinda things now...

Oh Gawd, where's the wind?

I thought we were the only suckers suffering this dilema. Up here in the far north coast it happens with northeasters as well

It can be be windy from only 500m/1km inland. Im fully amped on the way to the beach and I just get let down. Then I think about finding some spot up a sharky muddy river to kite, im not desperate. Anyway might be a challenge dodging oyster leases.

See ya
