hi guys-
ive been following the other boardbuilding thread- some awesome info thanks.
a specific question hopefully someone can help me with-
im about to start on a plywood board- exterior ply (12mm).
the most convenient/cheapest pieces are 1200x900. i am 90kg, but will a 120cm board be too short for me??
i am used to 140 but unfortunately no more...
i was considering 120x40 for my first shape.
can anyone suggest if this will be ok for my size? if not what might be better...?
dont mean to hijack the other thread but it was getting a bit too technical for me- v basic handyman skills...

I think you should be fine aslong as you make it really wide.
most skimboards are around the 110cm mark but they work really well because they are friggen wide ~50cm.
The problem will be with what outline to use, I don't think a simple rectangle will work to well with such a short wide board.

im about your size and have made a couple of boards and i agree that the other thread was getting a bit techy so ill try and keep it simple the best out of the 3 i made was constructed from 16 mm ply and then water proofed with bitumen a little heavy at 25 kg but a real upwind demon it also tended to get a bit sticky on the warmer days (not to mention smelly) but for a board that only cost me three dollars to make(found the ply and stole the foot straps off some kook who was learning to body drag) easily overlooked a basic yet functional board and can be easily tricked up with a couple of anodised 3 stage scransom valves which you can find at your local nasa store. good luck

1200 x380mm works fine for us ,as long as you dont make the ends to narrow.

there's a program u can download called Shaped3D or somthin, its small and simple, and within 5min u can design a board that will have the outline and rocker and stuff u want. there's a kiteboard template in there already, so open that and type in the width and length and thickness u want it, and it will generate it, then tweek the profile from there. Unfortunately its a demo only, so u cant print plans, but i have been informed of getting around this...
press the "print screen" button on the keyboard, then open up MS Paint and press paste, and the screen shot will go there. then hit print... done.
so look for it and u can have a play and design a shape, print a basic plan, then go from there. if i can use it (not a very PC-smart person) then anyone can.
just some useless info whilst i am sitting here bored as...no wind!

nope, not the one im thinking of... i found a freeware program a while back that allowed you to do something similar but it was much simpler. will have to google a bit.

thanks that program was pretty good.
have got the basic shape- bout to go cut it.
will keep you updated- may need advice on best way to screw footplates in and stuff...
also fins... but will worry about that when i get there.
