is this a goer in the current winds?

(i've read that it only works in E's)

any other (flatwater/nongusty) spots in driving distance of perth for a (desparate) newbie?

Stay away from the River in winter, way too gusty.

If your after flat water, try woodman point and depending on wind direction more than likley beach 1(at woodies). Be carefull with all these big fronts around things can turn ugly very quickly.
