Hi guys,
I am after a supplier of polyester ripstop material to replace a some panels on my damaged kite. Yes...I'm going to have a go at it myself..after the hack job that was done on my kite by a "professional" I figured I couldn't do any harm

I have tried a few sail makers around town (Melbourne) but non stock polyester ripstop and then try to convince me that it's nylon ripstop that I'm acctually after!!

Any advice would be great thanks.

G'day gigantas,

I'm based in Bendigo and have made my own 13.6m2 AirBlast10 rebuild (only the bladders are original). I got all the cloth from the local sailmaker and it works fine, dries quick should you drop it in the drink and is lighter than the original Wipika stuff. Give me a message should you want any assistance in getting in touch with them or help with how to tackle the job in general... I'm on my second kite rebuild and have planes to build my own design next; it adds to the buzz of kiteboarding! Much like roaring around the track with your own hand-built car and engine... minus the grease, stink, noise and tandem trailer ;-)

rgds,

BTW AirX is nylon and has been used by many kitebuilders with great results... see groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Inflatodesign/info and web.media.mit.edu/~saul/zeroprestige/kitemake/ for more clues

Azza You saving up for sandy point at christmas.

How's the airblast frankenstien work with the 5th line?

"If it ain't broke, tweak it!"[}:)]

Planes for plans... funny you should say that; I've got a mate in Bali this week looking into getting some proto's made by local workers. It's great making my own kites but the sewing can suck.

FrankenBlast loves his 5th line... it's a much better arrangement than the reverse launch bridle that was originally fitted to these high AR monsters.

Santa's sending seabreezes and super southerlies to Sandy Point for speed this summer! Sensational! Should start saving soon.

If you cannot get it from a local sailmaker, try Kitepower in Geelong. They do not have it in stock, but can get it quickly.
It is available from sailcloth importers, for sure!
