went last year for 3 weeks in june. i copped 4 kiteable days, 2 days of about 14 knots and 2 of 25+ knots. apparently though it was an unusually crap season.
when you drive into town from the cook hwy, you will see a video store on your right as you go through a roundabout. turn right here (barrier street) and head down a couple of hundred metres until you see a sign to the beach on your left. head in there, its where the locals kite from and is the far south end of 4 mile beach. nice flat water but look out for reef on the south end at low tide.
some great scenery on the beach itself, otherwise i found it a **** of a spot for wind but like i said, the locals reckon it was unusual to cop no wind at that time.
good cheap camping at dougies backpackers, otherwise you will pay through the nose for accomodation.
check out the wind rose section at the bom website, it gives you wind speed and direction averages for heaps of diff spots around oz. you can pick specific months and morning or arvo averages.
also look out for the bloke who kites and lives on the foreshore at barrier street, i forget his name but think he is a few sandwiches short.
