i surfed lakey's for five mad weeks... crikey!..about 15 years ago. What is it like there now and whats the dynamic with the surfers. Even back then it could get busy. How are the surfers dealing with you guys. Do you get many kiters there? Post a photo if ya can i would love to see a shot of the spot with kiters on it.

Hi Richo
You owe it to yourself to go back and kite it.
It's a bit more comfortable now, better food, less gut rot, the locals are better nourished .... but it's the same reef.
In the mornings there was often quite a big line up of surfers, much less crowding for the kiters. The only time I had to compete for waves was at the Pipe, and that's just that there were a lot of pros there getting their photo shoot. I never had any angst from surfers, as it was fairly obvious when the wind came in and it was our turn. I can tell you that Bertrand from Slingshot is a little Cvnt that likes to try to steal waves, enough to make me very glad that I've changed to RRD so I'm not putting any $$ in his pocket.
The photos I posted were from the smallest day I had there.
As a cautioary tale, I have never seen so many surfers break boards ..... I saw a few every day. That's a major advantage of kiting over paddling ..... everywave is tow in, no need to go over the falls onto the reef... unless you make a mistake.

I surfed LAkeys about 8 years or so ago, its such a top break but gets crowded as hell.
There are a few more breaks on the Bali side of the island which are perfect for surfing, kiting not so sure but would be worth a look and are far less crowded as they are difficult to get to.

Some of the other islands east of there are just perfect. A break called T-land springs to mind. It was blowing its arse off every arvo when i was there and perfect glassy conditions in the morning. This left is as good as, if not better than G-land, just a hundred times more difficult to access.

On my last indo trip it was thge first place i arrived at, took me three days to get there flight to Bali, flight to Kupang, boat to the island, then the bus to the spot. On my third surf or so, snapped my 6'10" the board i had especially made for the trip. .Spent the next two months with my 6'2" and a real crappy 7'0"...either totally under gunned or riding a piece of **** that wouldnt turn properly.
