Bernie.

Pull the safety and walk to the kite on safety.

Set the kite up for a self launch. If you still don't know how to do this then as the others say, you need to get a lesson of someone competent to show you how.

Kites dragging on the sand like this will cause premature wear not to mention a hazard for other beach users.

Good Luck Bernie

It can`t really be done with most LEI kites on a four line system. So get a fifth line or get in the water, it`s much safer in there anyway.
With most kites you have to get them to stop sliding along the sand before they flip over for a relaunch.

....as someone suggested above buy a foil.

It can be done really easily but not safely.
just pull in a lot of line on one side and kite will start to lay down on the side pulled in but as soon as the other side lifts up, it is going to start catching wind. That means you are about to do a hot launch straight downwind ON THE BEACH. Lets hope you have a lot of room as you are looking to get a nice body drag. OUCH

Listen to Hurrah and just pull saftey and go reset kite for self launch (towards the water)

If you are dumping you kn kite on the sand straight down kn wind, then you must be at most kiting 27-30m away from the kn beach in onshore kn winds.

Good kn luck to ya!

Never dick around on the beach with a kite.
That's where the sh1t happens.
Get in the shallow water and fly your kite.
Then when you crash it, it will hopefully land on the water too.
Then you can practise your relaunches off the water.
Kitesurfing is a water sport, not a land sport.

Safe kiting,
waveslave.

Common guys give the guy a serious answer -
First of all walk towards the kite so that the middle strut is nearly touching the sand - if i understand the question properly then this means your under-side of your kite will be pointing to the sky. Then walk/swim to the edge of the wind window - make sure you keep some line tension as if the lines are very loose then the kite will flip over and cause a tangle. Too much and the kite will try to launch too early and will power towards the ground.
In short you have to move to the same position that you would launch from when assisted.
Cheers
Al
Oh and if the kite just slides across the sand when you are trying to get the strut to go down towards the sand - understand that this is harder to do on land than on the water so some of the previous posts offer good advice about learning this on the water - eg. the shallows in St Kilda in Melbourne
