It works and can save mega$$ or slavage a kite that might not be otherwise worth repairing due to the high cost of new bladders.

You need a roll of baking paper, and also some spare bladder material, every surface you inted to weld needs to be dry and free of talc. You need to be very accurate with the baking paper it must go right to the inside edge of the seams in the bladder.
Practice makes perfect, so you may botch a couple until you get the hang of it, so maybe practice a couple of times on an old section of bladder?

When using an iron I have found that the cover sheet of the yellow pages is good instead of baking paper, the yellow side towards the bladder material.

And washing old bladders with soapy water and drying before ironing makes the seam hold better.

yes they are the best, i have repaired heaps of bladders, you can repair anything even replace a valve. the key is to practice on scrap first to get the temp right, not too cold so you can pull the joint apart, and not too hot so when you try to pull the joint apart it tears along side the weld.

I bought a 400mm Venus brand thermostatically controlled heat sealer on eBay cheaply and was able to repair a 16m leading edge bladder that I previosly had given up on and replaced with a new one. I now have a spare bladder.
