has anyone tryed useing a different kind of depower rope on there rev? i was useing my 9m rev last week on a very gusty day and when i got home the sheeting line looked like it was already 6 months old. i have replaced it with some 6mm spectraspeed which i picked up from whitworths. it fits the cam cleet so much better and seems so much smother.it has a breaking load of 1570 kg so it should be right strength wise.
just wondering if anyone has done anything similar .
cheers stu

blahhh, don't get me started on the slingshot depower rope, its the achillies heal of the otherwise most bomb proof of kites. am yet to make one last a whole season, and that lube wax that andy or any slingshot rep will tell you to get and put on your depower, just makes the rope sticky and impossible to use as it gets full of sand and crap, and its like you can't use the depower anymore because its either stuck in the cleat or you can't get it to stick in the cleat.
every slingshot i have owned since '04 has this problem, fuels, links and revs. its almost as if its slingshots sucker punch to get you to buy their ridiculously over priced "genuine replacement part".. the old fuels were the worst, they had the neoprene sleeve over the splice, so you basically had to go the genuine rip off, the only upside was they wore out half way along where it would go through the ring holding the front lines, so when you had to replace them you were left with the perfect length bondage rope, the neoprene sleeve makes for an easy cuff, that is binding but without being totally overly masochistic as knots and buckles tend to be...
only thing is, i've got dozens and i've only ever needed one... tried two once, but it was a bugger to get into them and when i did i found i was stuck and could not do anything.... just lay there and wait for someone to come help me out of them... i live by myself, so it took a while, never been so glad to hear a jehovah god botherer at my door i tell you.....

...and yes in my experience, sail shop spectra works just as good, lasts just as long and costs as much as slingshot would charge you for the packet they put their genuine replacement in...

I used surf wax on my TD1 and it lasted for 2 seasons when my mates were lasting for half a season. No sand stuck to it at all - just work the wax in.

Is working well on my REV now.

i tried bees wax but it just jams the sh!t out of it. [frustrating as hell] i like a nice smooth running bar and the wax just makes the whole thing sticky. so i cut it off and put the spectraspeed on . i`ll let you know how it goes.

ive used the sprectra on my 13m 06 fuel before, but i found the out core would fray. I actually snapped the rope while i was out the back in some decent surf. Not a fun experience. Just make sure you dont let it stay frayed for too long. I also found the out side sheet would bunch up and wouldnt let the bar side freely. The movemnt of the bar when the rope was new was great, but for my kite that didnt last too long, (shorter than my rev rope) So all i can say is yes its cheaper but it doesnt last as long either. So i guess weigh up the pros and con's

The surf wax hardens up a bit and became smooth not sticky. I just used Mrs Palmers warm water wax.

I normally take the spectra out of the sheet (when I still went through all this pain) and then there was no problem and you can see how quickly the spectra was wearing.

I guess the price point for the ss part is just a tad high at $40 - $50 (I think?)... at $20, it would not be worth the effort to make a rope work and I would be buying replacements. (Not going at the shops, they have a fixed buying price)

So far my loops have lasted, but I have two bars and I use both quite a bit, rather than just the one.

Ive had this problem as well on fuels and revs. I connect a Ronstan pulley to the silver ring and loop the rope back through this pulley rather than the loop. Makes a huge difference. A little expensive but when I sell the kites I remove the pulleys and use them on my new kites.

Vader I'm not sure why you experienced trouble with the bees wax. I run that on my line and it works fine. Extends the life of the rope ten fold I reckon. So long as you put it on when the rope is completely dry you shouldn't have any probs.

I did exactly the same on my TD1. It does save your trim-rope and it makes trim adjustment much lighter and smoother.
Only problem (AND IT IS A BIG ONE - ESP IF YOU ARE UNAWARE) is if you are using your below the bar depower to your safety leash then the trim-rope will not pull through the 'active stopper ball' and the pulley. The rope will jam tight when the stopper ball hits the pulley.

When your throw to safety you only have as much depower as you have set on your throw length.
This is very dangerous esp for those who normally ride with the 'stopper ball' a long way out. The further out the stopper ball is the less depower you will have on your leash. It becomes just the same as riding a suicide leash.

melt candle wax in a pot then run your chickenloop rope thru it and it soaks in real nicely(especially when brand new (((THEN WIPE OVER IT WITH A RAG, OTHERWISE IT WILL GO LUMPY N STICKY..)

No puppet . It works fine. Maybe we are doing things differently. My safety and depower work fine. Not sure though why you would want to connect safety leash to depower?

IF YOU UNSCREW THE STOPPERBALL SO IT SLIDES FREELY THEN WHEN YOU LET GO THE BAR WHEN UNHOOKED IF CONNECTED TO THE DEPOWER ROPE WITH YOUR SAFETYLEASH IT WILL PULL ALL THE WAY THRU. (LIKE THE LIQUIDFORCE KITES, EXCEPT THEY GOT LONGER THROW)

i personal think ss a very good bar set up. Everything is kept simple and easy to use, you will get wear on most ropes, its not only a ss problem. But its interesting hearing how much length people go to, with their set ups

Thats what i like about the SS bar set up, simple, yet effective with the safety and depower. I am lead to believe that SS have addressed this issue with the 09 gear with a narrower depower rope and larger hole in the bar. Correct me if I am wrong.
