just spent 8days at gnaraloo with the srt's. 5'11 is the size that i prefered. rode it everyday and after coming back decided i never want to ride a tt in waves again after riding one. yes a few other companies are bringing them out also. but with riders like vari, tobias and wilson all having imput into the boards and leading the way in wave riding with kites it makes sense that it has had alot of work put into it. the shaper of the srt's is the shaper for cj hobgood the professional surfer. if u are in the market for one check em out and ride one u wont be disappoited. and like all other ss products they are bombproof

why not just go down the local board shop and pick up a groms second hand board
they're a dime a dozen and would be nothing to get the deck beefed up
5 11 x 17 and a bit. common as muck
sling on some foot straps
got to be a good cheap alternative

I'm riding a 5'11"x17&7/8 grommies board, strapless. I'm stoked, getting alot more floaters, foam-climbs, snaps & vert rios, even cutbacks are possible.
If you want to get as close as you can to surfing it makes sense, & it feels right.
Instead of relying on kite power you have board volume & rails that give lift.

It's a very different way of riding, it probably wont appeal to any dyed in the wool twin-tip rider that has never surfed. You need to use shorter lines & ride less powered, keep the board alot flatter on the water - let the fins do the work as opposed to the edges. Also you tend to make your turns depower the kite if it's windy.

It's great to combine a session with both surfboard & twintip, I usually go ride some waves for an hour then come and grab the TT and go boost/wake styles - great contrast!

As for price I think I'd rather spend $300 on a 2nd hand polyester board (which you could cheaply & easily reinforce and put straps on if you want).
Why buy a styrene-cored production board for more than twice the price?
I've snapped or delaminated every board of sandwich/styrene construction I've tried - so never again for me... I bet the SRT is a great board though.

I was also lucky enough to spend the last week at Gnarloo and loved the board there, as well as 2 foot cross shore dribble at home.
I have been thru buying many old grommie boards and busted every one either in the first hour or only a few days.
At around $150 even for a cheap grommie board it soon adds up over a season.

Whoa mate! How on earth can you bust so many boards so easily!? You're either hitting kickers and sliders all the time and snapping or chipping them , or who knows lol...

There are some great boards out there

I'll add seeing this is a Slingshot topic, the slingshot Misfit I've seen zebb and zac on is a beauty

yeah get a small surf board, spend time and money on making it a 2nd rate kite board. OR get a real job in the time you would waste and buy the srt.

If you dont put straps on, a polyester surfboard isn't gonna break in a hurry.

I've been riding the same board for the past year and aside from doubling the quality of wave riding, I've learnt some good things from unstrapped riding.

I'm not into trying to ride waves with TT's anymore... although waves do make great kickers
