Looking at getting a smaller kite for windier condtions cause i was struggling with my 12m naish cult this morning.
A mate suggested one of the 9m best-kites as a good choice, mainly cause thats what he uses and he can get me a brand new one at a good price.

What are your thoughts? right size/brand? im 80kg
still new to the sport so dont know much about what kites are out there.

Was that you at lake weyba this morning?

I was riding my girlfriends 9m Takoon this morning (normally ride a 12m and am also 80kg) and it was perfect... but don't forget that the winds we are experiencing today are really unusual, up to hurricane force type winds. Winds up here are normally only about 15-20kts so a 12 is perfect for you... i think if you had managed to get your kite flying you might have got into trouble today as the 9m was really powered up for me and when i did a couple of jumps I got LAUNCHED!!

If you have the money, go for a 9m as a second kite... if you only have one kite and can't afford a second stick with the 12m and wait for the sort of winds we normally get here... hope this helps

I woud recommend that you don't wix your quiver, so stick with the cults, they are excellent kites anyway.
The next size down to suit you would be the 9M.

Why not? thats one of the worst bits of advice i seen you type steve. What if the guy wants kites for different conditions? i.e. one for dingly dangly wakestyle and the other for uncool posing in the waves?

allkind - try a few different brands if you can. i.e. demo to see how they feel. For what its worth the best kites are great , value for money/performance etc.

I am doing the same thing, I have a 13m tribal I am 95kg, and wind in perth has been pretty good this week and finding myself really over powered even when fully trimed. I am looking for a 9m though a bit short on cash after chrissy!

Was wondering if most of the guys in w.a have two kites. one for normal days and a smaller one for those windier days?

Hi Desmond,

Most of us use two kites. I ride a 10m Flow SLE for normal conditions and a 7m Flow SLE for when it's nukin'. I also sometimes ride a Vapor, again 10m and 7m.

Also ride a 9m or 6m DNA for surfing on a Converse board in waves.

Being a school owner I have access to lots of kites but still basically only ride two sizes.

We have a good range of 2008 demo kites and sell new ones too. Come for a visit if you want to try any of the above mentioned kites. We also have 12's in all models.

Good winds,

find a mate who's lighter and make a deal to use their normal kite while they use a 7m or something and they can use your 13 on the light wind days

Of course,
That is excellent advice about not having a mixed-bag-of-lollies.....
But mostly ignored by the crew.
lol.
When you keep to the same cut,
it just feels right.
Get used to your kite, it should be as familiar as your lovers face.
