this has happened 3 times to me now...the chicken loop has slipped free from my harness hook when under power, obviously this causes me to have no depower ability. the last time it happened was yesterday, i was met by a big gust at the same time and couldnt hold the kite so released the bar and spent the next hour untangling my lines. joy. has anyone experienced the same problem with this bar/chicken loop? the plastic chicken loop and donkey dick are both very soft rubber, maybe too plyable? or maybe i need to bend my harness hook down a bit to prevent the loop coming free??? suggestions?

Hey Nads,
Sorry to hear that you had such a mishap but this is not a situation unique to any one brand. The reinforced plastic chicken-loop with donkey dick was a standard fitting for most kites prior to 2006. It is actually quite reliable and certainly heaps safer than just having a loop only and having to make sure you didn’t pull in to hard and have the loop drop out of the harness hook.
Remember that the loop is what takes all the load and the dick is only there to keep the loop in place with the hook when there is no load on it. If it comes out of the hook when the dick is in, it generally means that the loop has not stayed properly aligned in the hook and the dick has taken all the load, it will of course pull through. This can happen a few ways but most often when you are really twisted like riding toe-side with the kite and rider very low (the pull on the hook is then more downwards, not up or out). The c-loop can also get twisted around during a crash, not realizing this the rider powers up and shortly after the dick pings under the load.
The dick being longer and stiffer can help in some cases, depending on the hook you have.
Hope that this helps, please let me know if you feel that your particular part has a problem and I will sort it for you.
Regards
