Hey guys,
A few friends of mine are getting into the sport, im keen to join them and want to get in on second hand gear. I have been looking on ebay and the for sale section here, but im not really sure what gear will suit me personally.

I do know that, being in tas, i will need atleast a 12m kite, probably better with 14? and that im best to go with gear newer than 2004.

Im 6'3 and weigh around 100kg so I guess Ill be looking at a XL harness.

If anyone has any kits they are selling that would suit me could they PM me or post here?

I appreciate any help you guys can offer.

Thanks!

kurisu,
This discussion should cover most of your questions re different kites etc.....

http:www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?

Also check the buy /sell section of this forum for secondhand gear.

And most importantly
MAKE SURE YOU ARRANGE SOME LESSONS.
This is not said to sound like a prick. this sport is and can be very dangerous if you are not properly informed.
If you have flown a kite of this size before you will already be aware of the power. If you have not be prepared to be shocked at just how much power is at the end of those lines.

Good luck with everthing and prepare to have more fun than you have ever had before.

Sorry mate didnt really fully answer your questions.

At your height and weight you are right I would also recommend a 14m Bow/ Hybrid kite or something a little bit bigger in a C kite.

I personally would go for a Bow style kite ( the pros and cons of which have been and will always be hotly debated within this forum ) IMO a 14m bow should see you out on the water from 13knts to 25-27 knts ( even a little more once competent) this means you will only need one kite as opposed to a c style which to cover this wind range you would need two.

( a 12m will work from about 18-20 knts onwards for you but I would strongly recommend going for the 14m as there is nothing worse than watching your mates shooting back an forth because they are lighter and are out there as soon as it hits 15knts.)

Again you are right to go for 04 or newer gear. the safety aspects are the primary reason.
Also remember that your first kite is going to get a thrashing whilst you are learning so dont be too concerned if the one you are looking at has been repaired at some stage etc.... you will probably want a new kite before to long anyway best not to spend too much on something you are going to initally punish.
Once you are confident that you know what you are doing then part with the extra coin for a better condition kite.

Unfortunatly being 83kgs and the size of a tallish dwarf i dont have any gear which will suit you. But there is plenty around just get something recommended in previous posts and get out there.
good luck

hey, thanks for the advice.

I was already planning to get some lessons. I figured it could be pretty dangerous.

Ill definetly go for 14m now though, so thanks for confirming that for me.

Hopefully ill be up on the water soon!
