found this little snippit...coldn't stop laughing hope it doesn't happen to me

Static

Last night was interesting. Out at Long Rock, Marazion, Cornwall, UK, wind was dropping, felt around 12 mph, low cloud and the odd rumble of thunder.

I threw up my 18 meter X2 and was happily crusing for 15 minutes until CLICK my whole arm just, erm, clicked. I looked at my hand to check it out, then CLICK my other arm did it, but I guessed what it was. My kite was picking up static from the low clouds.

Holy sh#t batman. Lets get the f#ck outa here.

..... no, no, no. Hang on. Would my idiot brother get out? No. *sigh*

The wind picked up quite a bit over the next 15 minutes. I was nicely powered, then on a long run out to sea ...BZZZZZZZT. Aaaarrrgh! With the whole of my left side twitching and hurting I dipped the kite onto the water and limped back to shore. Scared ****less, crapping my pants. Also cursing myself for being supid enough to stay in.

No doubt, that was the worst electric shock I've ever had.

Following a spate of vehicle thefts from our beaches I now remove the battery from my car before leaving home for the beach. How do I start the car for the return jurney? Glad you asked. I have an array of electrolytic capacitors bonded to my board. There is enough charge after a kiting session to crank over my old V8 Chevvy. It's a much better system than just removing the rotor-button and it's also better for the environment.

stamp, you crack me up

sanamarco, you worry me, but thank you for drawing my attentions to my error. The capacitors were recently changed and are now all tantalums, I had problems with the previous array of electrolytics because the salt water was ingressing into their cans. Also tantalums hold their charge for much longer (all be it, a "tad" more expensive too), should I be slow packing up after a long hard session, I no longer have to worry about the carburettors not being able to pick-up enough fuel before the cap's have drained. I have found that lots of jumping decreases the charge time, it must have something to do with the potential difference whilst off the waters surface, the higher the jumps the quicker the charge.

Hey, Stamp....i take offence to that!!!

So i'm a little gullible (ok, a lot gullible) but i work in electronics manufacturing and some of the electrical engineers here do some wierd things.
